Is drinking tap water safe?

I sometimes have a glass of tap water,

But I'm told it's not really safe to be drinking.

Thanks for your help :)

Generally it is nothing to brag about, with chlorine and several other toxic poisons which have been added to kill bacteria, city water is not so wonderful.

City water treatment plants do a pretty good job of killing the bacteria in the water, however, it is a good idea to filter the poisons out of the water when the city is finished with it. This can be done easily with carbon block filters.

It depends on where you live. There was a famous advertising campaign by Fiji water, which was rebutted by the Cleveland Water Department which tested Fiji water and found it much higher in arsenic than Cleveland City water. Most bottled water is just tap water. The two largest selling brands are tap water with a cheap filter. Most "spring water" is just city water from an area with artesian wells.

Some bottled water is bottled right from the same source as your tap water. There is a report that most water bureaus put out annually that indicates the ppm for impurities.

If you are unsure, buy a water testing kit from the home depot for $20 and have your water tested

    In most developed countries, yeah.

Now, if you were like out in the sticks in Mexico or some third world country, I wouldn't drink the water.

If you seriously think tap water is dangerous, some people might suggest you drinking bottled water. However, that could cost up to $1500/year.

My suggestion is to buy a water filter to hook up to your tap. It costs like $30, and your water will be super clean and tasty!

Life's too short to listen to those health do gooders and their brita filter purifiers and spring water. At least we have clean running water on tap, some people have no choice but to drink and wash from rivers and risk infection

Yes tap water is fine to drink even if it has not been filtered but you can buy filter systems that attach easily to your tap to filter the water.

it should be completely safe to drink tap water. Unless there is contamination in the system, which the local authority must inform its customers off.

There are places in the world where one would be well-advised to stick to drinking bottled water, but not in the United States. If your municipal supply is tainted, your local health department will tell everyone what they need to do while they correct the problem. They'll put public service announcements on radio and t.v. All you have to do is follow their instructions until the problem is resolved.

I have been hearing on the news, about all the people over the years that have been flushing old rx's down the toilet.

It has tainted our water supply, I am very weary of drinking tap water myself. ( and who knows what else over the years that have been flushed! YUK
