There is not a man, woman or child in China, Chinese citizen or foreigner, who is safe in China. Not only do I think the Olympics should be yanked from Bejing, (it's not too late yet,) but the IOC should be made to understand that if they make a misinformed decision like this again, they should be held accountable.

Having said that, they certainly should not be boycotted. The Olympics are supposed to be the last thing left in the world where people can buckle themselves together for a common cause without politics to muck it up.

That's if they're not being held in a country like China, where human rights abuses are a way of life. Remember the kid looking down the barrel of the tank in Tiananmen Square?

    Yes I do.

The Olympics is primarily about sports and fitness. However it is also about nations getting together and celebrating peace,

    friendship, and equality.

China has a dismal human rights records. And the recent events is Tibet further prove this point.

I believe that government officials and diplomats should not attend the opening and closing ceremonies of these games as a sign of protest. Better yet, maybe we should be slapping additional import taxes on all that "Made in China" junk that fill our stores throughout the world.

What is a bad idea is the Olympics have been turned into a political event.

Well if the Olympics are not supposed to be about Politics then its an okay idea , it won't be dangerous at all.

This idea of boycotting the opening ceremony but then participating is cowardly! If your going to boycott , boycott the whole games!!

Only if you show up wearing a Free Tibet tee shirt.

But as far as dangerous goes, we had terrorists bomb the games here in Atlanta so I don't think it could get much worse than that.

I think it's up to the Olympic committee, and there is no place in the Olympics for politics.

The Olympics is supposed to be above politics.

    (shrug)

...the Olympics were held in Moscow in 1980 when the USSR was in the midst of an invasion of Afghanistan. And it was held in Berlin shortly after Hitler took power. I don't see how this is all that different.

Truely, I really could care less about the Olympics. That is the god honest truth of it.
