Why has the Democrat Party never apologized to African-Americans for the atrocities committed against them?

because today they say that it's the republicans fault for everything. why do they say that because republicans support the business sector and then they point out the lack of blacks currently succeeding in the business sector. so where the democrats had a past of overt racism the republicans have a a present of supposed racism. it's just political pandering.

The Dems, as a party, did not found the KKK. The KKK was founded by a small group of Confederate vets in Pulaski, TN. I know the Dems aren't perfect on race (e.g, Woodrow Wilson was very racist and segregated the federal gov't.). However, the Dems have been good friends to us since the New Deal (e.g, FDR banned job discrimination among defense contractors, Truman integrated the Armed Forces, Johnson signed the Civil Rights of 1964, etc.) and have redeemed themselves by doing so. The things that the Republicans have done to us since 1964 (Willie Horton ad, opposing the MLK holiday, etc.) are probably beyond redemption.

Oh, and as an adjective, it's "Democratic", not "Democrat".

The democratic parties ideas have changed dramatically since the Civil War. In reality, the Democratic parties ideas back then were more Republican than Democratic. It's really the Repub. party that should apologize. Both parties pretty much switched around.

What happened happened and the people responsible for those acts aren't around any more. Why should this generation of democrats (who's ideas have radically altered through the years) apologize for something they haven't committed or have any control of?

Because the instances you are talking about involved individuals and not the party as a whole, and the "party" has changed dramatically in the past 50 years.

Would a meaningless apology from people not involved in these examples given only to be politically correct really mean anything to you anyway?

I think today's democratic party is more concerned with what events have occured within their own lifetimes and with what they personally have done. Only 4.5% of the South could afford to own slaves during the Civil War. After the war, millions of whites who never owned slaves immigrated to the U.S. so it's hard to go after reparations when we would have to do a family tree to find out who owed what to which descendants of slaves.

Get over it. Spain has never apologized for the genocide on American Indians.

So why would the Democrat Party apologize for something it's current members, politicians, etc... had nothing to do with it.

Get over it. Apologize to whom? What would that do. Another round of blackmail and extortion of bribes for people like Jesse Jackson. Politics has always been dirty and it was never restricted to blacks. Every ethnic group in the USA has been discriminated against, however, other than the "blacks", they have overcome the sentiments and established themselves as viable parts of the US. Try to do that for a "change" and forget the eternal grievances.

The U.S. government hasn't even formally apologized for slavery and the genocide of Native Americans, so why point out Democrats??
