  • Are there any anthropological studies on the development of legends?

Does Anthropology have anything to say about legends? In particular, do legends evolve or develop in predictable ways? Are there any established patterns or principles related to the development of legends?

  • Who sings this Southern Gospel song?

I love this Southern Gospel song but I have no idea who sings it (other than it's a female singer).

The lyrics go something like this...

    CHORUS

I'll never feel more love than the love from above

    Of an ever-caring unseen Friend.

His kingdom in the sky, though never seen by eye,

Is a place that I could never comprehend.

I'll always feel his grace and you can see it on my face

Cause I know that we are walking hand in hand.

And I'll never feel more love than the love from above

    Of an ever-caring unseen Friend.

Has anyone heard of this song? Can anyone tell me who sings it??

    Thanks.

  • What exactly is Barack Obama calling on Americans to "sacrifice"?

In the last debate with McCain, Obama (like other Leftists) made it a point to criticize President Bush in his handling of the 9/11 tragedy. Specifically, Obama criticized Bush for not asking Americans to "sacrifice."

I listened carefully to what Obama said (and has been saying). I have never heard him call on Americans to "sacrifice" anything. On the contrary, his campaign is largely comprised of government give-aways of healthcare and other entitlement programs. He said "healthcare is a right" in the last debate. (The man is very creative to say the least.)

Can someone tell me SPECIFICALLY what Obama is calling on Americans to "sacrifice"? I suspect he's using the term "sacrifice" to mean that RICH Americans (those who probably won't be voting for him) should "sacrifice" their hard-earned money so that he can give it away to GREEDY Americans (who are likely to vote for Obama) so that they can get free money and services from the government.

I thought Obama was calling on ALL Americans to sacrifice. As usual, I have to ask where's the substance behind the rhetoric?

Again, I'm looking for SPECIFIC SACRIFICES for ALL AMERICANS that Obama has called for. I'm not asking you to SPECULATE on his intentions. I want quotes from Obama or his campaign regarding what exactly ALL Americans should be prepared to sacrifice (besides our freedom) if Obama is elected President of the USA.

Good luck finding the needle of substance in Obama's haystack of lofty rhetoric.

  • When will Hollywood actors learn the difference between a TEXAS accent and a SOUTHERN accent?!?

I just finished watching "Charlie Wilson's War" and I'm reminded of one of my pet peeves about Hollywood actors attempting to portray Texans.

I'm listening to Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts portray Texans and I feel like I'm listening to a scene from "Gone with the Wind"!

Texas is not part of the "Old South" as Georgia or Mississippi are. The Texas accent is distinctive. Women in Texas don't talk like they're sipping on mint juleps and fanning themselves in the shade. This is exactly what Julia Roberts sounds like every time she opens her mouth in this movie. It's really irritating.

For any non-Texan actors who are supposed to portray characters from Texas, PLEASE check out a copy of "Sling Blade" and listen to Billy Bob Thornton or Lucas Black (the little kid). Yes, I know the movie takes place in Arkansas, but Thornton gives a PERFECT East Texas accent.

Does anyone else ever notice this inaccuracy?

  • Who is included in "all that the Father give (Jesus)" in John 6:37? Is it everyone? Is it some?

Here is what Jesus said (in context) in John chapter 6...

37 All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. 38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. 40 For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”

Again, who is included in all that the Father gives Jesus? Is EVERYONE included in this group of people? If so, how do you reconcile that opinion with Jesus' next phrase ("all that the Father gives (Jesus) WILL come to (Jesus)")? In order for this to include ALL people, we would expect to see ALL people come to Christ (and we do not see that).

Please explain (and please explain THIS PASSAGE without running away from it).

  • Why do Arminians and anti-Calvinists fail to cite scripture when they attempt to defend their flawed theology?

Based on my experience, when Calvinists (Reformed Christians) defend their doctrinal beliefs, they usually read from large passages in the Bible (John 6, John 17, Romans 5, Romans 9, Romans 10, Ephesians 1, etc.) and let the words of scripture speak for themselves.

In contrast, Arminians and other Anti-Calvinists usually quote a "nugget" from scripture (totally removed from its context) and then talk for 30 minutes attempting to explain why Jesus really didn't mean that Christians were chosen when he said they were chosen and why Paul didn't really mean that Christians are predestined when he said they're predestined.

I would be embarrassed (and scared) to speak against the scriptures simply because they don't say what I would like them to say. Christians are supposed to align their theological beliefs around scripture; not to bend the Bible around their own preconceived ideas.

If scripture does not support our theological position, shouldn't that tell us something?

  • Why do Dispensationalists ignore what the Bible clearly says that contradicts its system of belief?

As a case in point, look at the following Dispensationalist question and the bogus answer given (and chosen as best answer).

QUESTION FROM DISPENSATIONALIST: Does anyone here think there is any proof (in the Bible) that replacement theology is biblical? If so, please show chapter and verse.

ANSWER CHOSEN BY DISPENSATIONALIST: The so-called "replacement theology" is not biblical at all.

How can a serious Christian claiming to be a Dispensationalist simply ignore clear scripture and hold on to its unbiblical system of belief? Is there any Dispensationalist out there with a Bible (who knows how to read it and exegete rather than eisegete)?

  • Why has the Democrat Party never apologized to African-Americans for the atrocities committed against them?

The Democrat Party has never issued an apology for the following atrocities against African-Americans:

    1. Fought to keep blacks in slavery and founded Ku Klux Klan.

    2. From 1870 to 1930, used fraud, whippings, lynching, murder, intimidation, and mutilation to get black votes; passed Black Codes and Jim Crow laws, legalizing racial discrimination and denied blacks rights as citizens.

    3. Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry Truman rejected anti-lynching laws and efforts to establish permanent Civil Rights Commission.

    4. Senator Robert Byrd was a leader of Ku Klux Klan; Senator Fritz Hollings hoisted Confederate flag over state capitol in SC as governor; Senator Ted Kennedy recently insulted black judicial nominees by calling them “Neanderthals” while blocking their appointments.

    5. John F. Kennedy voted against 1957 Civil Rights Law as a Senator; opposed the 1963 March on Washington as President; had FBI investigate Martin Luther King, Jr. whom he suspected of Communism.
