Excel 2007 formula ?

I am wanting to add a formula that will count the number of characters (numbers, letters, spaces, etc) entered in a specific cell.

I know you can count the number of words, but can't figure out how to count characters only.

    =LEN(A1)

    Where "A1" is the cell you want to count.
