Pregnancy and body image don't go hand in hand for most of us I am afraid.
Don't try to lose weight now, it could be detrimental. Just be healthy- eat properly, and not too much. Take plenty of walks and be sensible. You can lose the weight after. Your specialist will advise if you are in a risk category.
I know where you are coming from too, as I am wanting to try for a second baby but weigh 24lbs more than when I started owith first pregnancy. Good luck and don't fret.

Unfortunately most doctors advice will tell you not to diet when pregnant ut this is bad advice as many diets are actually healthier than some mums normal diets. As you only put on 1lb per month for the first 5 month and then 1lb per week you have plenty of time to loose 2 stone.
Go to Weight Watchers as they would (not sure if they still do)
give you a specific diet.
As long as you have a rich healthy diet there will be no problem. If you start dieting now you will loose weight ,but as it goes further into your pregnancy it may be you think you are not loosing as you will gain pregnancy weight. It will be only after the birth that you see what you have lost. When they say take another 300 cal a day that could be a chocolate bar! It gives no nutritional value to your baby.
Eat fresh fruit.lots of protein, skimmed milk, reduce fats and sweets, no fizzy sugary drinks etc. Do some research and get a healthy eating regime so you get all the nutrition and you will be fine.

If you were already overweight when u became pregnant your doctor might recommend a healthy change of diet and a constant excercise routine (basically they will okay the weight loss) It all depends on ur body type and what ur doctor thinks is best. Asking never hurts. And yes it is safe to lose some weight while pregnant... generally when u lose weight its you burning off fat. Losing 10 lbs or even 20 depending on ur weight is NOT going to make ur uterus shrink, your increased blood supply go down, or ur placenta disappear... basically u'll be losing the bad stuff, as there is NO getting rid of the good stuff AS LONG as you stay WELL hydrated.

Yes, you can lose weight and become healthier while pregnant however, it is harder and there are many more guidelines to it. This does not mean it is ok to "diet" but you can shift your current diet to iclude more healthful, less unhealthy and processed foods. I cannot stress how important it is that you eat "whole" foods including whole milk, yogurt, what or other grain products as the baby need essential fats and nutrients that are in such things. The comparison lowfat or non fat diary products have similar (maybe a bit lower) amount of calories but not the same nutritional value. As for as excersize is concerned I would stick to low impact cardio excersize such as long walks without anything to intense. I would talk to your docter and/or midwife, and have them help you come up with a healthy plan. Remember, our bodies are trying to store up reserves to protect ourselves and our babies, so I think it should be more a goal to feel better about choices you make regarding diet and excersize and overall feeling healthier than trying to lose pounds or inches. Research it a little bit and make informed decisions before doing anything that you are unsure about. Good luck and congradulations on your second time around :) Take care, Nayana

If u follow a healthy low fat,low calorie diet while pregnant that should stop u gaining uneccessary extra weight but u do need to make sure ur getting all ur vitamins & minerals for a healthy baby.I wouldnt go on a diet as such i would just stick to a low calorie diet ,cut out sweets, cakes etc & take some light exercise.Swimming probly a good one while pregnant. That way ul minimise the weight ul put on & the foetus will get evrything it needs from ur body.Walking is a good one aswell.Swimming baths sumtimes hav classes for expecting mothers & u could carry it on & take the baby wen it is born which would help shift any extra pounds after pregnancy, the baby wil enjoy it & it wil get u out of the house wen baby is born.Ul be able to walk with the pushchair after its born aswel or have it in one of those sling/carriers that strap to ur body. The weight of carrying the baby in one of these wil make u lose more weight after the baby is born(u could speed walk doing this).Hope these suggestions help.

It's never a good idea to try to lose weight while pregnant. Just eat healthy and continue to excersise and you won't gain an excess amount of weight. Most, if not all the weight, will be contributed to the placenta, baby, water, etc. HTH

I was informed by my OB that losing weight is not a good idea at all. In fact, it is recommended that we eat an additional 300 healthy calories a day for the baby. Healthy, steady weight gain is a natural and much needed side effect of pregnancy. If your OB allows, regular, safe excercise is a great way to stay fit during these months. Water aerobics is a very safe and effective workout during these preggo times! =) Good luck to you and little one!

Weight Watchers Approach (cut and pasted from ww site)
Weight gain is an important part of a woman's prenatal medical care and is best managed by her physician. Weight Watchers does not provide any programs or services to women who are pregnant. However, achieving a healthy body weight prior to conception and then returning to that weight after giving birth is encouraged.

Just eat right, avoid fatty, greasy, starchy foods. Eat healthy meals, and if you absolutely need some chocolate get those 100 calorie snacks, same thing with chips, but only eat them every now and then. Drink tons of water, avoid sugary drinks. Try walking, but when you get tired stop. Thats all you can do. Some women end up losing weight during pregnancy all because they eat right.
