Professional refinishers only--DeVilbiss spray gun question?

I just bought a DeVilbiss JGA-510-E spray gun. I had been using one that I bought at Lowes that proved erratic. Right out of the box, I had problems with the 510--a fluttering spray. I tried every remedy on the troubleshooting page of the manual and nothing worked. Before I return it, can anyone think of why a BRAND NEW gun would have performance problems? Even when I shot clear lacquer thinner through it, it fluttered. Regardless of fluid flow, air pressure, or product, it flutters.

Its been a long time that I professionally sprayed for the Navy but I will give this a shoot. I was taught in Navy school that the spray gun with the most holes in the head, the better the spray or the spray gun itself. One tiny obstruction in one of these tiny holes can cause erratic and or fluttering spraying like you described. This meant to use the spray gun correctly, that it was time to remove the head and clean it. However, yours is brand new and my guess is there might be some sort of manufactured defect in one or more of the holes. This would or could be the reason for the fluttering even with clear lacquer thinner (we would see this in a dirty head). As you educated me a few weeks ago about Thomasville furniture, outsourcing to China is what everyone is doing today. So if your prized DeVilbiss is acting up it might be because the parts are being outsourced to China. As professionals we both know some fine machined made tools or even parts you just can not do that with without the consumer paying a price. Try a Bink's model 18 (I think that is the model number). That was the only gun I would use in my shop and it did just as good as a bulk sprayer. Yes it needed cleaning but not nearly as much as the other guns. You should have seen some of the airplanes I sprayed with it.
