Please, I need an answer if anyone can help!?

I asked this before, and I didn't get any answers. Maybe it's just that stupid to answer, I don't know. But I'm serious, I do wonder if I can lighten my dyied hair some simple way!

Here is what I asked: have dark brown hair and I colored it dark brown several times over the last two years. Anyways, I done my hair in light alburn. The roots turned out great! But the hair that has been colored turned dark red. Is there anyway I can correct this? I know there is 'shampoo' to wash out color, but is there something cheaper that will lighten my hair? Would it lighten if I leave it in longer?

I don't have much money, so anything would help. I have some grey hair that I want to cover up and I heard that grey does not show up as well in lighter color hair. So anything would help! (I can not go and have it professionally done so don't even suggest that! Thanks!

Update:

Actually, I haven't colored my hair for several months until I had done it again recently. So I don't think I over colored it. I wanted alburn all over and it makes sense about the virgin hair. I loved the color at my roots!

When you colour your hair particularly with a dark shade it is difficult to remove. The reason the roots always turn out correctly is because the dye is colouring virgin hair which isn't worn or already chemically treated.

Really the roots and the coloured lengths should be treated differently.

The lengths will grab onto the colour because it is porous and also contains a darker pigment to begin with. Strictly speaking this IS a job for a professional because it is a skilled job to get it right. It also depends on what percentage of grey hair that you have as some colours are not appropriate with a high proportion of grey. Shampoo will not get rid of a permanent colour, you need a colour correction specialist/hairdresser who knows how to achieve the desired result.

You need to give more information as to the exact colour you are trying to acheive, was it Auburn you wanted all over? It really isn't an easy job at all to do on yourself.

Why don't you try a mid-brown shade (permanent) with neutral to ash tones so that the red will cancel out and the lengths and roots should blend a little better.

But my advice is save up for a reputable hairdresser who knows their stuff and the actual product is far more successful as they can intermix specialised blends.

To be honest is seems like you've dyed your hair too many times and its altering your results. You need to strip the dye off and return to your natural hair colour, but that is expensive.

To lighten the hair you currently have, if it was a temporary dye it will lighten over time, however if it was permanent then it may change slightly but probably not as much as you'd like, I don't really know how to help but if I were you, when I was taking showers spend a little extra time scrubbing the hair with regular shampoo and see if that makes any difference, if not you should probably go to your local pharmacy and ask for inexpensive ideas.

    I'm sure they could help.

Don't try and lighten it. The longer it is in there it will fade and look lighter. If you try and lighten with blond or another color you could possible get orange or pink hair so i wouldn't recommend it. Just leave it in there and wash it every other day and it will fade to a lighter shade.

unfortunately, your best bet is a pro. i had a similar problem but reverse. my hair was dyed red and as it faded i wanted to go back to my roots. so i dyed it dark brown. it worked for about two weeks and faded out to a red color again. that was a year ago. the portion that was dyed red is still reddish colored and because i can't afford a pro to do it, i have to deal with it. really the best and only choice unless you feel like shaving your head.

as long as its not black it shouldnt be too hard to lift....just wash your hair a lot more and i dont know if leaving it on longer will help but just scrub rly good every time if u wait longer to die it next time this could help too..

Ask your hairdresser to recommend a cheap product.
