I have two pugs and they lick ALL the time - each other, themselves, people, furniture, carpet, toys, etc etc.

    The world is their lollypop!

I don't feed them people food. They seem to love and adore the organic dog treats I give them, so I figure why bring people food into the picture that inevitably causes begging, etc? Dogs can have so many different types of allergies and reactions and so many types of people food are toxic for them, that I just opt to stay away from it altogether.

We have two pugs....they do tend to lick alot especially their paws...but I think it's an allergy thing.

They do get very little table food. If we eat steak for dinner...I don't like the fat so they each get one small bite of what I am going to throw away. If we drop something on the floor (as long as it's not a toxic item) they will get it and for special occasions they will get an added bonus with their dinner...gravy or a little bit of turkey on Thanksgiving or something.

Neither of our pugs are overweight. Our 3 YO female is 16 lbs and our 7 YO male is 19. Both have a good shape to them and are not your stereotypical fat pugs.

I had a pug for twelve years. Loved that little guy (sniff). I fed him table scraps ALL the time. Just skip the dog food if he is getting enough people food, overweight dogs are uncomfortable all the time. Give him plenty of walks if you plan on spoiling him with food. Mine did not lick very much, but I think that is more of a personality trait than a breed characteristic.

You should NEVER feed your dog table food. I am providing you with a list of foods that are dangerous to dogs. Onions, Garlic, Chocolate, Raisins and Grapes... are some leading foods associated with animal poising. You don't know for sure if foods being cooked all the time don't contain some of these ingredients. EXAMPLE: Like store bought spaghetti sauce has obviously tomatoes... and some dogs are extremely allergic to tomatoes, and its not good for them any ways. But sauces contain onion and garlic powder and that's just as bad.

I do NOT feed my pets table food, its not good for them and promotes begging.

I don't have a pug or another small breed.. but with a great dane you need to definitely make sure they are trained properly. Behaviors that people let little dogs get away with are not accepted in large breeds. :P

If you want to give them treats, give them dog treats, or bits of raw, unseasoned meat. That would be fine. :) And unless you eat a lot of raw meat.. thats not table food.
