for christians against death penalty?
How can you be against death penalty and also be christian.
let's review
Exodus:21:12-23
"Anyone who strikes a man and kills him shall surely be put to death...If a man schemes and kills another man deliberately, take him away from my altar and put him to death. Anyone who attacks his mother or father must be put to death. Anyone who kidnaps another and either sells him or still has him when he is caught must be put to death. Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death...If men who are fighting hit a pregnant women and she gives birth prematurely, and there is serious injury you are to take life for life."
An argument commonly used is we are not in Hamurabi's code anymore with eye for an eye law.
Exodus:21:24
"eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise"
God's word. god said these things, so how can you say death penalty is immoral?

while peace, love, tolerance, and forgiveness toward our fellow human beings are in Jesus' tenants delivered to us,He also, said,in(NT) Matthew19:18 when talking to the rich young ruler when dealing with human relationships,"you shall not murder".this is still, whether one wants to admit it or ignore it for their personal reasons, of God, the Father of Jesus.God is the same one today that He was in moses' time when the law was given,by Him.Ex.20:13"you shall not murder".the punishment concerning violence, including pre-meditated homicide or murder, clearly in Ex21:14"but if a man acts with premeditation against his neighbour,to kill him by treachery, you shall take him from My alter, that he may die."the My,is God the Father of Jesus,in whom we base our salvation as christians on.just follow the truth.not only can we be christians believing in the death penalty, but as christians, should believe in it.there is provision for death penalty,it's not contrary to scripture and doesn't make us any less christian for agreeing with scripture,as we are instructed.

I am for the death penalty. Their lives are not taken by sinners. Their lives are taken by an unconsious government and previously stated litigation. Let me explain, government merely is an unthinking machine responding to crimes by the letter of the law. There is no judgment that has to take place as far as the character goes. If you kill someone in a certain way or do some other heinous crime, you will get the death penalty. Criminals have the opportunity to know the consequences prior to their crime, but do it anyway. This is different than the stoning that took place by the sinful Jews.

The laws of ancient Judaism are not instruction for Christians. When will you people realize this??
"You have heard that it was said, 'AN EYE FOR AN EYE, AND A TOOTH FOR A TOOTH'. But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also" (Matt 5:38-39)

Jesus taught kindness, patience, love. He tossed out Exodus's "an eye for an eye" with "turn the other cheek." Turning the other cheek is Christian because it was Jesus Christ's teaching.
There's also the fact that "thou shalt not kill" being part of the Ten Commandments which Jesus upheld as being relevant. That includes the death penalty.

Jesus said:
You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.' But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.

The death penalty is not "wrong" so much as it is misunderstood and inappropriately applied these days.
Execution was never meant to be a deterrent against certain "immoral" behaviors, or at least it wasn't insofar as a deterrent for the person engaging in those behaviors. It was intended to rid society of the source of that immorality.
We do not execute to punish the offender, nor do we do it to exact justice (merely a clever guise for vengeance in most cases). We execute to permanently and decidedly protect the rest of society from said violator--that's why in bestiality cases the animal also had to be killed.
EDIT:
Execution, when properly applied (a rarity in our culture today), is not in conflict with Christianity.
Ignore all these knuckleheads who are under the impression that the Old Testament somehow doesn't belong in the Bible any more. And from their statements they also seem to think that the purpose of execution (notice I never myself refer to it as the death 'penalty') is to exact vengeance.
I can't stand cherry-picker Christians--they give the rest of us a bad name.
EDIT #2:
For the record, a person who killed another in OT times COULD under some circumstances either purchase his innocence or give himself to the victim's family as a slave, in lieu of being killed.

This is what one should offer for restitution (eye for an eye) NOT what one has the right to take if offended.
The idea of this as retaliation is is Hamarubi's Law.
This is a collection of Civil as well as religious laws.
NOT to mention these are under the Jewish Covenant. . .the Christian Covenant (with Christ says)
John 8
Now in the law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?"
6
They said this to test him, so that they could have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and began to write on the ground with his finger.
7
But when they continued asking him, he straightened up and said to them, "Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her."
Matthew 5
38
"You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.'
39
But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil. When someone strikes you on (your) right cheek, turn the other one to him as well.
THE QUESTION SHOULD BE HOW CAN SOMEONE BE CHRISTIAN (a follower of Christ) AND SUPPORT DOING SOMETHING JESUS HIMSELF ADDRESSED BY NAME AND DIRECTLY TOLD YOU NOT TO DO?

This is old testament law and is the covenant with the Jews. It is not the law of Christian's. Christian's have an individual covenant with Jesus. The commandments of that covenant is to love thy God and love thy neighbor.
To the so called Christian under me insulting others not showing his supposed Christian attitude. If he wants to live under the old testament laws feel free to do so I will choose to live under Jesus' covenant with me as an individual instead of the covenant God made with a nation. Since he insists we need to live under the old testament laws too, I wonder when the next time he will have an animal sacrifice. Is it in your back yard or is there a temple that has been rebuilt for you? The old testament is a guide and is no longer law Jesus fullfilled the old testament our covenant is now with him. The old testament does belong in the Bible as a guide and nothing more.

That's in the OT. Jesus taught us to turn the other cheek in the New Testament.
Vengeance belongs to God. Yes, those things are in God's word, but most of the OT is to be used for teaching the history of Christianity. Jesus explained during the sermon on the mount that we are not to seek eye for an eye.

Old Testament but I do believe in the death penalty
