Do you like Stephen King ?

I am a BIG fan of Stephen King. I have seen all his movies and read almost all of his books. I just watched Stephen King's "The Mist", last night. It was beginning to be an awesome movie.......till the end. Has anyone else seen it? And what do you think about what happened at the end? Could you have done what he choose to do? Why? Serious answers only please.

Update:

Now that someone has said what happened, I'm going to comment on it myself. I didn't want to give it away, but it makes me so upset. I thought it was a rather good movie till the end. Yes I defenitly say there was some PTSD going on. I could never have shot my own child after struggling to keep him alive the whole time. And the child had woken up to SEE his father shoot him in the head, the first one to go. Then "BOOM" it's all over, just like that. Ironic?

I've heard from several people that they liked The Mist until the end, especially if they had already read the short story it was based on. Count me in the same category!

The twist ending was all Frank Darabont, and it was a MAJOR departure from the story. However, King liked the change and said that if he'd thought of it, he would have written it that way to start with, so I'm not going to quibble. Much.

There's a fan-made alternate ending on YouTube which sticks to the original story and which I liked a lot better. I don't have the specific link, but you can find it on YouTube by searching for: "the mist" "alternate ending"

I adore Stephen Kings movies, haven't read his books- just too long for me. I was however disappointed by The Mist. It just wasn't up to par compared to his other movies. The ending was especially a big disappointment.

I never could have shot my child, or my friends. I can't imagine shooting anyone, even if it was the end of the world. The poor guy, talk about serious PTSD!

I am going to say this in caps so Trix and Glam might read it and take notice:

STEPHEN KING DID NOT KILL OFF THE CHARACTERS AT THE END OF THE MIST. IN THE NOVEL, THEY SIMPLY DRIVE OFF INTO THE MIST IN THEIR CAR. THERE IS NO CONCLUSIVE ENDING LIKE IN THE MOVIE WHERE HE SHOOTS THE OTHER THREE PEOPLE AND THEN IS FOUND BY THE MILITARY. STEPHEN KING DID NOT WRITE THIS ENDING, IT WAS WRITTEN BY THE DIRECTOR TO ADD SHOCK VALUE.

Every question anyone has asked about the Mist, the same people come into it and spew crap about how it is classic King or the ending was totally King. It wasn't, King doesn't slaughter his main characters like they did at the end of the movie. If you havent read the story, please do not state how truly authentic the ending is to the book.

Having said that, the end of the movie was your typical end to a Hollywood movie. People don't like cliff hanger endings like those found in the Mist novella or movies like No Countey because they have no happy-feel good ending. Therefore, the ending was rewrote for the movie to give it shock value and add an actual end. As obvious, I like the book better than the movie.

I didn't like the ending because it was sad but it was definitely classic Stephen King. I definitely couldn't have done what he did because I have a daughter and I just don't have it in me to do that to her. I LOVE Stephen King as well.....I own every movie and book ever made by him now.

Edit: My favorite book by him would probably be Gerald's Game....would be cool if they made that one into a movie.

I have read the book and I do know that it doesn't end the same way as the movie but I also know that Stephen King liked the adaptation of the movie and liked the overall outcome. I don't believe he would have let the director or writers of the movie change the outcome without his input on it. So i'm still gonna stick with it being classic Stephen King becuase it is!!!

The Mist was an incredible story. As usual, they had to change it for some reason.

Stephen King did not end the story that way....in fact, he'd NEVER end a story that way. As far as I'm concerned, and I'm a hardcore King fan, that totally ruined the movie.

Yes love him & loved "The Mist". It was a long time ago when I read the story but I don't think it ended that way in Kings book but I loved the ending!! We get enough "happy" endings so this was refreshing!!

Apart from "Carrie" & "The Shining" (and the non-horrors "Stand By Me", "Shawshank", "Green Mile") King's film adaptations are generally slammed by critics but I really enjoy them especially "The Stand" & "IT".

I think that "Cell" is now in production.

My favourite book written by King was a novella in the same collection of stories as "Stand By Me" & "Shawshank" and it is called "The Long Walk". I adored this story and highly recommend it and I believe it is also getting the movie treatment shortly.

Now you have me wondering if I should watch it.....what happened at the end?

I love Stephen King! I enjoyed reading the Stand more then the mini series. Although it was good...there is nothing like a book eh?

I go against my instinks every time and always watch his flicks when they come out. It's always too predictable to me. I am going to stick with just reading the novels; my imagination is always better than the movies.

Generally speaking, he writes better than he films, with some exceptions, but it gets frustrating when a good story gets mishandled
