Got a 98 mercury sable the check engine light is on. Any idea what the problem is. The manual said could be bad gas causing the indicator to be on and to try a high tech gas a couple of times. Any thoughts

It is probably a bad oxygen sensor. You can take it to AutoZone or Advance auto parts, and they will check it for free.

A 98 is OBD11 diagnostics. If you want the codes you need a scanner or someone who has one,,,,like Autozone ,,,,its free there. Copy the #s that shown on the scanner.you can repost them here and get an answer.
Anywhere else you pay $100 just for the scan.

There is a sensor that is silver colored and has 2 hoses going to it, It is call a Delta Pressure Feed back exhaust sensor aka DPFE. They are common to go out on them all the time. They are around 70 bucks at the dealer. Replace it and clear codes will fix it.

well my friend go ahead to the mecanic and see what the problem is some times is nothing to worry about but you never know just go to the mecanic to be check out.
