Is allowing others from the R&S Section of Y!A to E-mail you worth it?
I spend most of my time in Y!A in the R&S section, and I recently changed my Y!A account to allow people to send me messages.
Since then, I have have received only two types of messages.
#1 - Unsolicited sexual overtures.
#2 - Hate mail from people that claim to be Christian yet hate me for simply being LDS (Mormon).
Is this typical, for those of you that allow email? Do you ever get worthwhile dialogue out of it, or does it just seem to be a source for hate spewing?

I have had my share of hate mail as well. I can deal with it -- I know what kinds of minds from which it originates.
I have had sexual suggestions -- from a man whose profile claims he is an evangelical Christian! Apparently he didn't read *my* profile, which clearly state I am exceedingly married.
It's still worth it to me to have it open -- I am not hiding anything and people deserve clarification and a private conversation they so desire. So many people have sent me pleasant greetings that I would not change my setting. : )

I talk with people on email, but I never HATE for them being LDS, I just am trying to understand how the group in Texas claim to be "Mormons" yet other "Mormons" claim they are NOT Mormons, I have been reading and I know that they broke away from the main church, and I know that the mainstream LDS doesn't support the polygamy or child abuse, I have asked that ALL LDS speak out against those in TEXAS and LET THEM KNOW they DO NOT CONSIDER them to be LDS!
I think its important that the higher ups in the Latter Day Saints make a statement totally seperating themselves from this travesty, for the good of the church as a whole and I am not a member of the LDS.
I think it looks bad when anyone CLAIMS a connection, even if others say there is NOT one, I would continue to make that clear...
anyone who makes advances by email should be removed permanently from Yahoo my opinion....

I do get worhtwhile messages 99%...sometimes someone doesn't agree with a question I've posted. With one person I finally suggested that if my question didn't follow his line of reasoning then perhaps he should form his own. The subject matter was deep and I think far beyond his pateint levels. That's why it was just easier for him to tear mine apart. But he never did form a question.
So report the person for sending the sexual overtures...if there is a way. Or just delete and don't respond to the garbage.

I have not exchanged my email address with anyone except for the r&s regular that invited me. I get enough hate messeges through my q&a profile I don't want them in my email inbox. There are a few people that do send me nice messeges. But the majority of messeges I've received are hate messeges. Because I am not against any one, I love all people no matter their beliefs or non beliefs and I do not bible thump. Some of my sisters in Christ disagree with my answers and they are not afraid to let me know loud and clear. I respond to them in love but when they continue to send hate messege though I've shown His love the best I can. I have no choice but to block them from further contact and pray for them.
No it's not worth it to be emailed hate messeges that's why I do not exchange emails. I feel safer only being contacted through q&a messeges. Because then my email address is not passed out or used to sign up for any websites.

I've gotten some hate mail, and some emails saying - good questions, and occasionally asking for more info.
But it depends on what categories you post in.
I have now turned off my email, because I was getting too many hate emails because of the R&S Section.

How ironic that another answer mentioned a specific user who sends hateful emails and then blocks you from replying.
She asked a provoking question, and I answered it, and she didn't like my answer and instead of posting it along with all her other chatter with her "posse" she emailed me and told me to "MIND MY OWN STINKING BUSINESS!!!!!"
And so, I copied and pasted it into my answer and said "Look everyone, what a "Christian" acts like in private, but is too cowardly to make ALL aware of"
Next thing I know, I'm getting a violation notice and I was blocked from this sorry excuse for a "Christian's" questions.
Other than THAT experience, I've had only positive feedback.

I never got any unsolicited sexual overtures, *cries* , have gotten a few hateful ones. Mostly they are from the people who are my friends on here.

here in this area.. a LOT of the email becomes "slap and run"... they use the email to make comments that would be reportable on the board.. then after slapping, they block YOU from the right to respond. Insults are not adult discussion. Trust me, you can normally email those who are open to civil talking. I don't block mine because this is not the only area I deal with.

It's worth it. I've made a few friends and cleared up a few misunderstandings because I have email enabled. Just report the hate mail and block the sender.

1 word. DELETE! I hate that people have all the time to compose mail only to speak as if they are any better than you. Dont engage their ignorence. Dont aknowledge them. Treat them to the SPAM box where all the other undesirable mail goes!!!! God bless you Mormon Sister.
