How is it that atheists with no basis in religion or confirmed spirituality can be a Top Contributor to R&S?

I don't think this makes any sense.

Because we give good answers to questions.

Atheists are typically the people who know the most about religion and spirituality. Why would it be surprising that the people who are most knowledgeable about a topic would be top contributors to the forum dealing with that topic?

For giving many answers to questions.

You may as well just ask - how can a human be a top contributor in YA! politics section, if they used to be a democrat, or a republican, but they are now a libertarian?

Or in general knowledge, if they aren't a general? ;-)

You seem to miss the fact that many atheists were once religious, and also have their lives affected by the majority of people who are religious. This would mean that they probably have more interest in religion and spirituality in general than someone who only has interest in their church.

And from reading the questions on religion from Christians and Muslims, I am simply floored by the amount of misconceptions that both groups have of atheists in general.

Atheism is a subject within the realm of religion, just as the French Resistance was a subject in the realm of National Socialism.

Atheists have been demonized for centuries for their religious position (non-religious), without even being allowed dialogue.

It seems that many people still do not want to allow the atheist to speak his or her mind about religion, and it's effects upon the world.

    So many theists simply state:

"athiest is confused, it really seek my GOD! Athiest father is Satan!"

    Etc...

I wish to question those comments...just as I wish to question the Klan, and Islamic treatment of women, and 'exorcism' of autistic children...religion deserves questions.

And of the many theists who lie (such as Serenity here) about people (atheists) they don't even know...why should they not answer my questions to them?

Why would I not want to question their lies? And the motive behind them..? It is they who say that others are 'evil' simply for not believing in their gods.

    I have many questions.

I am an atheist, and not a top contributer to R&S. I would like to say that just because a person is an atheist does not mean that he/she has no basis in religion. I personally was raised Roman Catholic, confirmed, and then taught catechism for three years. I know the bible cover to cover, and therefore can give informed answers.

Funny when you think about it like that...I was surprised to see how many atheists seemed to roam about R&S...and for what point? I don't think I really get it either. If you have no religion/spirituality, why try to convince others that theirs is wrong?

Seems as if a person was atheist, they'd just not care and want to concern their lives (and Yahoo Q&A's) with other topics...

But then again, I'm not and have never been, so I really don't know what it's like, do I? : )

Because unlike a lot of religious people who hold a narrow view of the world, we tend to look things up and get our facts straight before parroting the same old rhetoric that was spoon fed to us from the cradle.

I know a lot about Doctor Who.

    That doesn't mean I believe it's real.

Religion is an interesting subject, no matter what your beliefs.

It's impossible to study sociology, philosophy, psychology, or politics without some knowledge of religion.

Agree with Paul (bullfighter) and Donna and Heather

Atheists do have the Basis in Religion and they have Spirituality.

    Are you picking on someone???

Same as with the top contributors of society.

Just because we don't believe doesn't make us uneducated.

I would wager there's more atheists with more knowledge of theistic religion then the theists.

You receive enough best answers as a percentage, you become a top contributor.

    It makes sense to me.
