Is it really necessary to remove asymptomatic impacted wisdom teeth?

I have some crowding in my bottom teeth which I plan on correcting with Invisalign. But my dentist also recommended having my wisdom teeth removed, even though he said I can do the Invisalign before removing my wisdom teeth. But is it really necessary to remove impacted wisdom teeth if they are not causing infections? Is wisdom teeth removal overdone in this country?

The reason your dentist recommended having your wisdom teeth removed is because you are going to have your teeth re-aligned.

At the moment, your impacted teeth are showing no signs of coming out, possibly because there is no space for them to get out.

Once your other teeth start to shift, your wisdom teeth might go "Hey look! We can escape now!"

Then if they decide to come out, your jaw will still be overcrowded, and the pressure from them might affect the existing treatment plan for the re-aligning of your teeth.

Now, if you weren't getting your teeth aligned, then you can leave asymptomatic impacted wisdom teeth well alone; till such a time that they do become a problem.

(However, do bear in mind that the older you are, the more complicated the healing process may get. So maybe that's why many people decide to have it removed earlier in life, when recovery is the fastest, with the least complications).
