Didn't Jesus say in Mark 5 not to keep to traditions of the church as commandments?

Though it was said about traditions that people kept of moses, this certainly can be used today, because as time goes on, people slip back and do the same thing.

5 Then the Pharisees and scribes asked Him, “Why do Your disciples not walk according to the TRADITION of the elders, but eat bread with unwashed hands?”

6 He answered and said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written:

‘ This people honors Me with their lips,

But their heart is far from Me.

7 And in vain they worship Me,

Teaching AS DOCTRINES the commandments of men.’[b]

    Dear Friend,

In reference to Mark 7, God does not want us to perform things in repetition, as though we are "robots." God examines our hearts and know our motives.

God is not in the "religious" business, however, there are sacred traditions that we do perform out of reverence for Him, such as Holy Communion; which is to be taken very seriously.

1 Corinthians 11:26-34 says, "26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do show the Lord's death till he come.

27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.

29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.

30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.

32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

33 Wherefore, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, tarry one for another.

34 And if any man hunger, let him eat at home; that ye come not together unto condemnation. And the rest will I set in order when I come."

God is more concerned with our "obedience."

1 Samuel 15:22b says, "obedience (to obey) is better than sacrifice."

Notice in verse 30 the consequences of taking Communion ...unworthily. Sickness.

The traditions of The church "usually" have the ear-markings of the sectarian spirit being defined as nationalistic, or some other distinguishing mark. In the end, it is almost always damaging and takes away from the leadership of the Holy Spirit.

The traditions of men become the plume line to measure right from wrong rather than the Word of God.

There is only one church in the eyes of Christ. It is simply the church, the mystery revealed to the apostles Paul and Peter, also to us today in the Word of God, should we ever chose to be honest. Jew and Gentile reconciled into One Body, the mystery Body of Christ.

People scoff at the concept. This is because only the Holy Spirit can bring this about.

Should we ever again chose to give ear to the Apostolic teaching ushered in with the New Covenant and give heed to building according to the New Testament pattern, then things will happen. Remember, the church is lifeless without the breath of the Holy Spirit. As in Ezekiel, he commanded the dead bones to come together into a body with sinew in flesh.

Yet, not alive without the breath of the Holy Spirit.

That being copy/pasted without credits makes me wonder how much of that you understand. Nevertheless, any ordnance, any additions made to holy scriptures as canonized since the 4th century are abominations if required as obligatory. Any church practices in conflict with the final canon of the Bible after about 419 AD should be discarded. Instead, today's Catholic Church is almost wholly divorced from the Church instituted by Jesus and His remaining original apostles. Many of the papal decrees since then have risked the integrity of God's word by reopening the canon. The Church desperately needs yo return to the simple instructions of the original completed and canonized Bible. I worship in such a church, non-denominational, no man or organization on earth commanding us. Jesus is Lord in Heaven and Earth. We hear the voice of God, obey the Holy Spirit, as authorized by Jesus. Get the people between you and God out of your way today.

It says nothing of the traditions of a CHURCH. It speaks ill of the traditions of the elders. What were the traditions of the elders? You can use the rest of the verses to figure that it. They followed the rules in vain, so as to appear righteous to the masses, and not because of love of the Lord. It's a message against the intent in their actions, not against the actions themselves.

Is not opening your church service with a prayer a tradition of your church? Of course. You certainly wouldn't consider that forbidden by the verses you supplied, would you?

mark chapter 5 deals with the Damon possessed man healed.

    Mark 7:6 KJV

He answered and said unto them , Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written , This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.

Jesus showed the example here of how tradition has made void the law of God. They professed great devotion to the lord but where corrupt. the show was to worship God, but but had substitute there traditions for the doctrines of the bible.

Traditions of men was the topic Jesus was referring to in this passage. Paul goes into detail on this subject in Romans, and Colossians. Jesus said there are two commandments, (1)To love the Lord your God with all of your heart, mind, soul, and strength;and(2)Love your neighbor. He went on to say that if you do these two things, you will have fulfilled EVERY law that has been set. Our problem in the Christian community is that we try to go on fulfilling doctrines and practicing "religion". If we were to completely love God,we could hear what we need to do. And if we would love our neighbor, they would see Christ in us.

Well, notice he did not answer a traditions question with a traditions answer. He used the word Doctrines of men. Let me see Trinity- doctrines of men. Saved only by accepting Christ, no other thing, doctrines of men. Paul was not a prophet, doctrines of men. Old Testament not applicable, Doctrines of men.

There was no church at that time.

Do not accuse Christians of what those who were devoid of God's Spirit did.

Don't know, but if that's true, it's a good thing we Catholics don't do that, then, isn't it? Just because you THINK you know what we do, doesn't mean you're right. Got a thing for us, don't you?
