Perhaps you have misunderstood the comment. Stray cats actually dine on the homeless labouring classes. Those poor souls working in the real estate industry, hotel industry and for the ruling classes often have nowhere to stay at night and huddle up in newspapers as close to outside heating vents as they can. The unfortunate few who fall asleep often wake up to find themselves minus an ear or a section of thigh. Perhaps that's what happened to some of your limping help.
