Fantasy baseball trade question?
I get:
Joe Nathan
Alex Gordon
Carlos Lee
I give:
Carlos Pena
Jonathan Papelbon
Kosuke Fukudome
Who wins?
10+ for best answer
Well my other closers consist of Putz (DL), Cordero (DL), Sherrill, Izzy, and Lyon.
I could use Gordon with Lowell on the DL..and Lee would just be a nice addition.
Answer 4...You got the trade all sorts of screwed up...Its Nathan Lee and Gordon, not Nathan Pena and Gordon
Err just change the closers around...urgh

You win here, I'd say take the deal.
Carlos Lee is a monster, winner of the NL Silver Slugger Award last year. Fukudome will rack in quite a few more SB's than Lee and have a higher AVG. But Lee is a guy who will contribute 36-40 HR's, 120 + RBI's & 15 SB's (10-15 I would expect) and a .290 AVG. It's quite hard to judge whether Fukudome is the real deal, as this is his first year in the MLB. Lee has been one of baseballs most consistent players since 2000, Besides an injury which slowed him in 2006. Lee wins easily here.
I would say Pena has a slight edge over Gordon here. Gordon's value to me goes up a little due to the fact he can play 1B and 3B. Pena already has 3 HR's this year, but has a .176 AVG. and 14 K's in 34 AB's to along with them. I see a funny resemblence to Adam Dunn here. Gordon is a good hitter (Possible 20/20 guy) but don't expect Pena like numbers from him. He is off to a great start batting .297, 2 HR's, with 6 RBI's. not too much of a loss for you, Gordon will hit for a much higher average, and steal a few bases here and there.
As i said in your other question, Papelbon is arguably one of the best closers in the game today who will rack up quite a few K's. Not too much of a downgrade going to Nathan though. Both are consistently great and should get you 35 + SV's easy. Both are dominant closers in the league, but again slight edge to Papelbon due to K's. Papelbon has 9 K's in 3 SV Chances (4 Games) Nathan has 3 K's in 3 chances. (3 Games)
You get an RBI machine in Lee, a possible 20/20 candidate in Gordon, and a consistently good Closer in Nathan.
Hope this helped! Good luck this year!!

OK, let's start with the closers swap: it is the irrelevant part of the trade cause both guys are outstanding closers and will end up with the same kinda numbers at the end of the year.
Boston might get more save opportunities than Nathan but I don't think that it is that big of a deal in this case.
About the hitters now: basically you are giving a 1B for a 3B and swapping OFs. In baseball the position eligibility is almost the most important thing, if you got a better 1B than Pena (I hope you do) then Pena will not play much for you and he just had one great year (always a scary fact).
On the other hand, 3B are harder to find than 1B and if your 3B was Lowell then getting Gordon is definitely a smart move.
Lee is an upgrade over Fukudome, that's a no brainer... even if Fukudome has a great start, he is no match to Carlos Lee.
I would do the trade if I were in your shoes. The other guy is probably a Sox fan and overpaying for Paps ;)

It's a fair trade, but I would do it.
You'll still have plenty of closers on your team when they're all healthy, so losing Papelbon doesn't hurt much. You also have the #2 closer in the game in Putz. Nathan has been great so far too. Lee is much better than Pena. Pena will not repeat last year's numbers, and he's never been consistent. On the other hand, Lee will consistently post .290+/30/100 every year. Gordon has 20/15 potential, and Fukudome is very similar, but with less steals and a higher BA.
Hope I helped!

I see that other people aren't really helping so maybe I can:
First off I would not take this trade. You are giving up too much potential for what you are recieving.
Papelbon will most likely lead the league or be at the top in saves, where as joe nathan will just be slightly above average.
Alex gordon is a good player, but Kosuke Fukudome is a rich man's hideki matsui. He is the real deal and he will hit at least 30 home runs this year.
When it comes to the biggest names in this trade: Pena versus Lee it is basically equal. Pena will hit more home runs then Lee, but Lee will have a slightly better average. Both will be about equal in runs, hits, rbi's and they might each get 1 or 2 stolen bases.
Based on the above data I would say you should definitely decline this trade.
Best Of Luck.

Dont do the trade! As of now i believe that Nathan is worse than Papelbon Lee is SLIGHTLY better than pena and Fukudome is better than Gordon. Dont do the trade. Unless you are in a keeper league, then i would do it.
Good luck!

Papelbon > Nathan
Lee > Pena
Gordon ~ Fukudome
You got a worse closer, but a better 1B. Gordon and Fukudome both have great potential. Skillwise, the trade is pretty even. So as long as you are filling positional needs with this trade, you should do it.

Fukudome is equal to Lee, Papelbon is way better than Nathan and Pena is barely better than Gordon. Don't do it.

Unfortunately, I'm also going to subscribe to this theory.
Papelbon > Nathan
Lee > Pena
Gordon ~ Fukudome

Giving up too much. Unless you're filling other specific needs on your roster, you're giving up too much for what you're getting in return.
The other guy wins. Don't do it.
