1994 Lincoln Town Car white smoke?

I just bought a beautiful '94 Lincoln Town Car. The owners used to own three Midas Muffler shops, so their mechanics always took great care of that car. I have all the books and records, regular oil changes, etc.

I noticed when it is hot and when I pull away from a traffic light, it blows smoke. I sat in a parking lot and let it idle for a minute then gave it gas and more smoke came out.

Since I am in the car, I can't tell if it is blue or not, but it seems white from what I can tell. But I'm not sure! Any ideas/suggestions/repair-prices?

Update:

It blows the smoke when taking off from a stoplight, or sometimes, from reving the engine hard after idling.

    >>>WAIT WAIT WAIT just a minute...

If your Lincoln is BLOWING a LOT of white smoke then it could be the head gasket has failed...HOWEVER a Lil white /grayish color is normal for a lot of cars on the road... especially when it's cold out or the engine is still heating up during a drive...this is SIMPLY condensation throughout the exhaust system...

Check your coolant level when the engine is cold... and note the level it is at... fill to normal or "full level" and drive as normal checking the Coolant once the engine is cold. noting the level if it has changed drastically...

BEst wishes! gotta LOVE THEM BIG OL american sedans!!

I have a 93 and rebuilt the trans a few years ago myself got about 80,000 on it since one of the flaws in this series of trans is the direct clutch and the seal that supplies fluid to that clucth pack the other biggie is the OD band to a lesser extent. the direct clutch is applied in 3rd gear and also used with the OD bad for 4thso it can affect the car from 30mph up depending on tires and gearingyou are likly looking at a reabuild but maybe could get lucky with a good fluid change but make sure you drain the pan and converter to get it all out of course there is stil some left in the lines and cooler so a flush is better if possible. this is otherwise a good family of trans if it gets rebuilt just consider a large aux trans cooler for longer life it helps a ton

Since you're not sure what color the smoke is it's pretty hard to say what needs done (if anything) or how much it might cost. Depending on the mileage the smoke may just be from normal wear on the engine and not much to worry about. Best bet is to have a trusted mechanic take a look at it.

White smoke, it could be you need an oil change. Try to use the Ford's brand of oil, that's Mobil1. Ask for a Mobil1 oil filter to be installed as well.

Joe is correct but to be on the safe side look at the rear alternator bracket where it bolts to the intake manifold. If the recall was not done you may have a crack there and a coolant leak if not , Joe has you covered.

If the engines loses oil, the valve seals are worn out

    white is coolant

    blue is oil

    black is fuel

prob. head gasket(s) if it is white smoke

avr $ of parts is about $50 labor should be about 2-3 hours

Head Gaskets need repair and I would do this asap before you blow the block. Is there water in the oil. Check this because it will leave pit maks in the pistons as well.

It sounds like it may need a valve job... it may be burning oil if it is smoking.
