"Vista Configuring Updates", how can I fix this?????

My Vista laptop recently stopped working. When I turn it on, it says "Vista is configuring updates - Stage 3 of 3 - 0%". Then it shuts down and restarts. the same screen shows again and the process repeats. I've even tried booting in safe mode! Any idea how I can fix this without deleting all my files?

yeah its pretty good since service pack 1 came out. Better to wait for windows 7 though - its a better OS. The Release Candidate for w7 comes out in May - the Retail version should be available 3-4 months after that. There's really no advantage changing from xp to vista. It doesnt offer much that cant already be achieved with xp.

try booting from the Vista DVD and click Repair, or do a install. Just don't click format or something along those lines. It shouldn't delete any files, just the windows folder.
