dogs anal glands?

When my dogs is frightened...or sometimes just randomly...she emits a smell from her butt that is horredous. I am assuming this is just a spray from her anal glands. The smell gets in her fur and on her tail and I can't seem to get it to go away. Does anyone have a trick to removing the smell from her fur?

This is very common and our vet showed us how to empty our dogs gland. But please check with your vet. I found this helpful link for you.

Your dog might need to have its anal sacs emptied. You can either have a groomer do this or you can do it yourself. I used to do this for my Bearded Collie. Put on a pair of surgical gloves and put your dog in the tub. Use warm water to relax the dog and then gently squeeze the anal sacs until they empty. It's not as gross as it sounds, but kind of smelly. Just be sure to sanitize your tub after.

it sounds disgusting, but you actually have to pop their anal gland inside otherwise it could cause problems. I have my dog groomer do it ( i know EWW).

and I think you have to do it every month or so, I'm not sure.

call your local vet and they should tell you more about it!
