  • James Patterson: Alex Cross series?

What is your favorite book in this series? I have seen the movie Kiss the Girls but have never read any of the books. I am looking for a book on tape and these seem like they would be fast moving. Can I jump into the series anywhere? Also, which book would you recommend?

  • can you keep food in a slow cooker longer than the suggested time?

Can you leave something in a slow cooker past the amount of time it calls for? I have various recipes that call for 8 hours on high or 5 hours on low. I know you can adjust the heat so you can change the cook time - cook on low instead of high to cook longer (although I am not sure what that rule of thumb is- how many hours longer you cook it when you change heat from high to low) but I was curious if you need to leave the food in the slow cooker longer than called for (because I will still be at work), will that ruin the food?

  • after hip replacement surgery?

My dad just had his hip replaced (he is in his early 60s) and is going home from the hospital today. I was wondering if anyone knows of a site (or has personal experience in the matter) where I can find more candid tips for recovery. Its easy to find the basics on a medical site but no one talks about tips on going to the bathroom or pulling up your underwear! I am just hoping to gain some tips from people who have been there and aren't afraid of discussing more sensitive issues that no one prepares you to deal with. Any help would be fantastic!

  • trying to remember the name of an old kids show?

It was on weekday mornings (possibly weekends too) and it had a boy (I want to say Max) and his robot...there were possibly other people...but these are the two I remember. It was an actual show and then cartoons (yogi bear, the old hanna barbera characters racing) would play...I am pretty sure it focused in on the screen on the robots belly and then the cartoon would play. Any ideas what its called?

  • My dog has diarrhea

She has had it all weekend but otherwise seems fine. Its troubling because she has gone in her crate several times....which she never does and is really distressing to her so I can tell it was unavoidable. We have been feeding her plain pumpkin since yesterday because we heard it was good for their stomachs. I also will get her some plain rice and boiled chicken. Any other ideas? If she seems fine otherwise and I give her enough water, does anyone think there is any reason to take her to the vet?

  • thinking of nursing and want to volunteer?

I am thinking of going to nursing school and would really like to log some volunteer hours to 1-make sure I actually would like the field and 2-get some hours to add to my application. All of the hospitals I have applied to are full until the fall and I am trying to think of other places to spend some time which would look impressive on an application. I was thinking of retirement homes...can anyone think of anywhere else that I am overlooking?

  • housetraining rescue dog?

Any suggestions for housetraining a dog that does not respond to praise and treats outside? Our 10 month old lab (a rescue dog) is so nervou outside that she does not respond to any sort of positive reinforcement when she goes to the bathroom outside. We take her out ALL the time to avoid accidents in the house, but she still has them. She gives no warning and then starts peeing. When we yell no, even if you touch her on the hind legs she won't stop...she just keeps going. We are frustrated because we get that it taked time and patience (its been 3 months) but we don't have any clue if we are getting through to her....it doesn't seem like it. We are thinking of using potty pads...but we are worried about our other dogs starting to pee inside.

  • using potty pads with 2 dogs?

I have a puggle that is a little more than a year old. Three months ago we brought home a shelter dog (now about 10 months) and we are still working to get her housetrained. Since we brought in the new dog, our puggle has been having some accidents in the house (it seems like they are more out of jealously/marking than actually "forgetting" her housetraining). We are thinking of using potty pads for the new dog in order to try to save our floors while she learns...but I am worried these pads with encourage my older dog to use them instead of going outside. Has anyone run into this issue in the past? Since her housetraining seems to be shaky since having to share the house with another dog, I don't want to give her one more reason to pee inside.

  • postal indicia?

I have survey cards I am dropping off to clients and I want them pre-posted with an indicia set up for our company. When I looked up indicia information at usps.com it seems like a typical indicia you get on things YOU are mailing out. I want them on the card so my clients can mail them back to me without charge to them. How would I go about doing this? Also, do I have to pay for each card that gets the indicia or just for the cards that are returned to me in the mail?

  • dogs anal glands?

When my dogs is frightened...or sometimes just randomly...she emits a smell from her butt that is horredous. I am assuming this is just a spray from her anal glands. The smell gets in her fur and on her tail and I can't seem to get it to go away. Does anyone have a trick to removing the smell from her fur?

  • house training 10 month old rescue dog?

Does anyone have any advice on how to successfully housetrain a 10 month old dog? We rescued her 2 months ago and seem to have made zero progress in the housetraining department. She seems to get that outside is the proper place to go but she is terrified of street noise and people and generally hates to be outdoors. She therefore she never tells us she needs to go outside. Even when we take her every two hours she still has accidents. She drinks tons of water and even when we have tried to limit it (being careful to still give her enough though) it doesn't seem to make a difference. Today she was taken out and wouldn't go and was especially skiddish....then not 5 minutes after being inside she peed all over the floor. She will even go in her crate, as she doesn't seem to have the natural instinct to keep her den clean (probably from living in a dog shelter). We are so frustrated and are running out of ideas. Any advice or really helpful books to reccomed
