using potty pads with 2 dogs?

I have a puggle that is a little more than a year old. Three months ago we brought home a shelter dog (now about 10 months) and we are still working to get her housetrained. Since we brought in the new dog, our puggle has been having some accidents in the house (it seems like they are more out of jealously/marking than actually "forgetting" her housetraining). We are thinking of using potty pads for the new dog in order to try to save our floors while she learns...but I am worried these pads with encourage my older dog to use them instead of going outside. Has anyone run into this issue in the past? Since her housetraining seems to be shaky since having to share the house with another dog, I don't want to give her one more reason to pee inside.

Update:

She goes everytime we take her outside....it doesn't seem to matter...she still pees more. We have tried limiting water (but don't want to dehydrate) but it doesn't seem to matter. We don't want to leave her in her crate all night because she is in there a long portion of the day.

I would use puppy diapers on them both for a little while. They make them for males and females. You can get them for around 16 dollars each at Petco or shop around online for better prices. They are machine washable and they will learn to wait to pee until they go outside. Also you might want to get some training spray and a stick to put in the yard. Just spray the stick with the stinky training spray (at Petco as well) and they will learn to go in that one area. Don't use the diapers for more than 2 months, if they don't get it in 2 months they probably wont. My vet actually said they can wear them up to 3 months and any longer they might get kidney stones. So it's just a training aid, not a long term thing. Sounds like dog #1 is jeaolous and is marking the territory. The diapers will help, but also the urge to do so will decrease over time. Some longer than others. Good luck and good job taking in a shelter dog!

I agree that that's puzzling to the puppy and not the terrific thank you to coach a dogs. even if, now and back that's mandatory so I understand. this may appear gross yet take the potty pad on your walk so as which you would be able to blott a number of his urine onto it. That way it has his heady scent on it and he's conscious that he can pee on that. he will slowly be taught that there is a delegated section the place he might nicely be while he's indoors. My terrific suggestion is to get a kennel to place him in after a definite time at evening. He won't like it on the commencing up yet he won't pee in a community that he considers his mattress. additionally, decrease off water after a definite time so as that he won't might desire to pee and feed him early so he can circulate quantity 2 till now too! desire that enables!

I agree with TKS, the potty pads will just encourage them to go inside the house, then ALL of your floors will be ruined.

Get on a more strict schedule of playing, feeding, crating, and potty breaks, just like TKS said above.

Potty pads will cause your other dog to go in the house more. You need to do a strict schedule of play, food, and crating with potty breaks every couple of hours.
