New baits for fishing?
I want to start trying new baits for fishing. It's legal to use goldfish here, but I don't know what will go for them besides flatheads. I also want to try slugs, because there is a ton of them in my garden. There is a local pet shop that sell hybrid red worms and superworms, and I'm not sure if those would work.
If you could give me information about what I could catch with these that would be great. I usually just use worms, crickets, or shiners but I thought I'd like to mix it up and try something different.

I fished with slugs for perch when I was a kid but I didn't like it.I can still remember the slime is almost imposable to get off your fingers.Ha I would have to say it was gross!plus they didn't stay on a hook very well.I would suggest getting a cast net and catching some shad or they work better than anything I ever seen.I've also caught lots of catfish on grasshoppers during the summer months below Keystone Dam here in Okla.Catch your self some small perch and try using them for bait on the bottom and with corks. As for worms the ones you dig up are far better than the worms you can buy.

I could see the worms working well actually, because they might just imitate the natural blood worms that occur on many rivers and lakes, fishing is all bout trying something different so give them a go, I'm sure trout would feed on most of those because they will feed on most things that accidentally land in the water, try fishing them close to the bottom then working your way up counting as you go then when you get a strike remember that number and let it sink to that depth.

I hunt when I can and fish a little. But when i go fishing due to the lack of preparing properly I follow the instructions from an old black man who is no longer on this earth and have fished with him in the past many times. when you don't have time for the depth gage, color selector,pH or even the boat. 2 hours before you go or more if you can spray your artificial bait with Pam cooking spray different scents stronger like garlic when the water is murky etc. I always bring home something. fresh and salt water. luck.

Chicken liver. Just about anything, but catfish love it. Try the superworms. Seen a 9 pound bass caught on a canadian nightcrawler. I never would have thought it. Tight lines.

Last year, I fished alongside Eastern Europeans. I was stunned when they caught fish after fish on chicken. Next time out, I used chicken, lo and behold, I was catching one fish after another.
