When are people going to stop callng themselves vegetarian even though they eat meat?

I'm kind of annoyed with how many people think they are vegetarian even though they eat "some" meat. When will people realize that VEGETARIANS DON'T EAT MEAT??

Totally agree. I really don't see what is so complicated.

Animal = meat = vegetarians don't eat it

    Simple

[edit] its those flexitarian, pescetarian, pollotarian, "partial vegetarians" that keep confusing every one. they are ***NOT*** vegetarians they are omnivores.

i know! Animal flesh=meat. End of story. If you only eat some meat, you can't call yourself a vegetarian...well i mean you can but that doesn't make you one. I don't understand why suddenly chicken and white meat don't count, I mean, they are living too! I guess know that being vegetarian is kind of glamorized and is considered the right thing to do, some people that don't want to stop eating meat call themselves "Flex Vegetarians." According to the definition, thats what I am then, it's basically an omnivore that doesn't eat too much meat, only occasionally. So I guess this means that pretty much everyone is a vegetarian.

    Heya

Yeah im kind of sick of it too. Ive had many an argument with fellow 'vegetarians' over this. They think that if they eat fish they are vegatarians. They are not. If they looked it up on the internet they are actually called Pescitarians. In the dictionary a vegetarian is described as someone who does not eat meat, fish, poultry or slaughter by-products.Fish are animals. They might not be as cute as a calf or sheep but they can certainly feel just as much pain. They still breath and have feeling and get stressed and worried.

I hate it when so called 'veggies' also go and buy stuff like strawberry laces and jelly tots. These contain Geletine (pigs stomach lining) and therefore isnt suitable for vegetarians.

It gives the poeple who are actually true veggies a bad name.

Good question. Star for you. =] xxx

i agree i have a few friends who are pisarians , those who eat fish but no other meats . They when asked are they a vegetarian they say no they are a piscarian that they eat fish but most meat eating people don't understand what that is and just go so ur a veggie .

I don't think its there fault in my opoin its the ighorance of meat eating people that cause the confusion

I truly wish I knew back then what I know today; I would have never fed my children what back then was regarded as "good nutrition". I would have eaten properly before they were even born! The kids are/were ADHD and a few other problems that are diet related from childhood ignorance by what MOM/me put on the table. Did not learn of the food dyes and sugars until they were 9 or 10 years old. I fed them meat, cow's milk, all the twinkies and other garbage that the media and such convince us as parents is "good for you and healthy". So very ashamed of the gullibility at the health of my kids and my self!! and since when is the consumption of meat considered a "normal diet"?? that is an abnormal forced feeding of meat product into a plant/grain eating person. should this line of thinking also apply to drugs? drinking? The kids are adults today, with kids of their own and do their own thing so it is very difficult to share knowledge after the fact. If I could go back in time I would NEVER feed my family meat or dairy. (grew up on a farm) I can see the health irregularities that my ignorance has passed down the family line. ( a whole other vision of "the sins of the father" if you think on it..)

That is a wonderful question. If you're gonna give up the really yummy stuff (pork and beef) why not just give it all up? A chicken's life has less worth? What?

I knew a polo-vegetarian at camp. Me and my then-friend, Mira, were both vegetarians and this other chick, Sam, was a polo-vegetarian. She told us about her polo-vegetarianism literally EVERY TIME WE ATE. It was completely ridiculous and oh-so annoying. Like, seriously, shut up.

And then this February Mira and I were in Disney for a trip with school and she was with her other friends. She was defending how she ate meat (burgers) in Disney because all the food was so bad. Apparently she also ate like 3 pieces of beef jerky back in the room. She still calls herself a huge animal rights activist and a vegetarian.

    Rant over.

But seriously people, I don't care if you don't wanna be a vegetarian, but don't pretend.

Oh jeez..I'm with you there. My friend Kate keeps telling everyone she's a vegetarian and everytime I turn around she's sneaking a meat sandwich or something.

I personally think it's because vegetarians (at least the ones I know) are the kids everyone wants to be friends with but know they can't unless they're just like the vegetarian kids.

Personally that just pushes us veggies away.

Maybe it's so they can be accepted. I don't know...It's odd and annoying.

I agree. Let me be called a "nazi", but as a vegan, it annoys me to no end when I see fellow "vegans" buying cosmetics from companies that conduct animal tests or (ALWAYS) the "vegetarians" eating fish. Id love to have a liberalized definition too, and recognize people for the contributions they DO make, but...if being vegan or vegetarian means basically you still contribute to animal cruelty, the meaning is chepeaned for those of us who DO go all the way and make a full commitment.

    My two cents. ^_^

oh, i know i totally agree with you. so many people say they are vegetarian when they eat everything but red meat and then people call themselves half-vegetarians or part vegetarians when they definition of vegetarian is dont eat meant not eat meat sometimes

Some people just don't really know what a vegetarian eats and then consider themselves vegetarians even though they eat meat, gelatin, glycerin, or animals fat.

What I do in such situations is gently inform them the might be primarily vegetarian or a semi-vegetarian. I often mention this is often a step towards becoming a strict vegetarian and hopefully one day vegan.
