Should the war on drugs be terminated? Billions of dollars have been lost on a war that can't be won; education is at best, underfunded; that money could have been used for something useful, like food... The DEA is already breaking the laws of the Constitution about unreasonable searches and seizures, but no one is doing anything about it. The FDA is putting out experimental deadly drugs left and right that SHOULD be illegal just because it (they) kill people. Why don't we have more people voting and petitioning for real-time wastes of money such as this?
Quizzard, if the FDA wanted to put out safe products, then they would find something that has no negative side effects. Since this is only true of marijuana, and since marijuana is illegal, then they are forced to find a chemical alternative, which often has bloating, cramping, nausea, headache, rise in blood pressure, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, etc., as common side effects. Who wants to take a pill knowing that it'll make them puke and poop, and possibly kill them? That's what the FDA does. Just to make money.

I really think the real purpose of the War on Drugs had nothing to do with drugs. It was just a way to give police and prosecutors more power. Before the War on Drugs, police weren't able to break down doors, or to search cars without a warrant, and a number of other things. It was about the time Nixon declared war on drugs that our constitutional protections began to crumble.
The War on Terror has done the same thing. Now the president can simply order anyone in the country arrested and held indefinitely without charges or habeas corpus.
The War on Drugs didn't improve the drug situation at all! In fact the drug problem was much worse afterwards than before. The War on Terror could work the same way, since isn't really about terror.

What on earth does the war on drugs have to do with the FDA? No, they do NOT release knowingly dangerous drugs, unless the benefit in some situations outweighs the danger. Mistakes happen, but they do their best to prevent dangerous drugs from getting on the market.

They should put some of that money into treatment; currently, if someone wants to kick their addiction, they're told to come back in nine months. We should HELP them, not turn them away.
