A couple of question on vid card and ram?

Vid Card: Right now i have an evga nvidia 8600 gts that is being cooled buy the built in fan on the card... i dont know if its normal or not but the idle temperature for it is around 50 and when gaming it goes up to around 68 C (or maybe even 70) if this isnt normal, how can i keep the card better cooled?

RAM: i have now 2gb of ram, and i read somewhere 3gb is the limit for xp... so, if i buy the 1 gig more, is it still safe? as in im not just wasting money? and i know most people recommend 2gb is enough.. oh and my windows xp is the 32 bit one.

For you RAM...There is no advantage adding another gig of RAM...since the new DDR are optimized to run Dual-channel. By set of 2 sticks of equal RAM sticks size.

Videocard...That's normal...the Core is created to go up to 100+ centigrade. If you want to keep it cooler...One solution, you can put more fans onto your comp. case for better airflow..by moving more hot air out and more cool air....

Secondly, this is the solution I recommend by buy an aftermarket air-cooler for your specific videocard.

    On the video card...

Yes, that is normal for an 8600GTS. They are designed to safely reach upwards of 80 or 90C. However, if you don't feel safe with it, just buy an aftermarket cooler that will fit your video card. I recommend a Zalman VF700 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8...

Also be sure to pick up some thermal paste (like Arctic Silver, available at most Radio Shack stores) and to read up on how to replace a video card heatsink.

    On your ram...

32bit operating systems can only support up to ~3.4GB of RAM. This is not just memory on the RAM sticks, but also on other components. If your video card doesn't have 1GB of video memory, 3G RAM would be a good upgrade.

(also, if you upgrade past the operating system's limit for RAM, nothing bad will happen. Just some of it wont be uesd)
