Yes they can in all 50 states under "The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2004".

In all but 2 states (Illinois and Wisconsin) citizens can carry concealed pistols as well if they have the proper license.

I have a Carry License from Tennessee it is good in 35 States.

Although many do not carry their "duty sidearm" off duty ... every officer I have ever known carries a firearm with them at any time they are out of their own home.

The officers are usually required to qualify with any weapon they intend to carry off duty. Some officers have several off duty weapons to choose from and "match the weapon" to their clothes and plans for the day. An off duty officer planning to spend the day hiking in the woods may not care about having a concealable weapon, but wants power. The same officer attending a formal wedding may opt for a more concealable piece, with less power.

As long as they can qualify with it, they can carry it off duty! Most officers do not want to be without a weapon, even off duty ... They may find themselves in a situation where they NEED that gun, and it does them little good at home in the safe!

It's always better to have and not need, than need and not have!

Off-duty carry is up to the department to which the officer is employed. In most cases law enforcement officers are authorized to carry the OFFICIALLY approved sidearm of the department as they won't cover liability issues due to a weapon the officer didn't qualify with on the range.

As a federal agent my employer allows me to carry anywhere and anytime, including on airplanes :)

Yes, in Michigan police can carry off duty. Some departments require you to carry off duty. Ours recommends it, but does not require it. I can carry my issued firearm or any firearm approved by the gun range.

Yes - and now with HR-218 we carry across state lines country wide - including us retirees.

I live in FL but I retired from the NYPD - I carry concealed all of the time.

Absolutely! The worst feeling is going out in public and seeing someone you put in jail...and NOT having a gun with you. It's 10x worse when this happens and you're with your family.

    So....yes...yes...YES!
