Is there a practical purpose to not revealing your salary?

Or is it some corporate propaganda to keep people from seeking equal wage. Interested in other reasons.

    I would say it would be to keep resentment down.... but the way you put it sounds even better ....

    Some people deserve more money than others. No one knows enough about anyone else's work performance (unless you are their boss) to know why they are getting paid what they are getting paid. Think about your own personal situation; if you you are making less than someone else, they will think you deserve less and will respect you less. If you are making more, they will think you did something unfair to get the extra money, and will be angry with you. Keep it to yourself, for your own good.
