Final Fantasy VII. Great story, memorable characters. Fantastic graphics for an earlier console. Just loved it.

the answer to both of those questions is Super Mario Bros 3 for the NES system

Listen, you can't just expect people to choose a single game, from a multitude of genres and platforms, as the number one greatest video game ever. It insults our intelligence as gamers and reduces us to yet another media cash cow.

Nevertheless, the best game ever is Diablo II.

Of course everybody likes questions like these, because everybody has a favorite video game. It's just about the most answerable question you can ask in an online forum. I'm saying that it's too simplistic of a question, because sometimes maybe I'm in the mood for a good tactical shooter game, other times I'm in the mood for a good RTS game, or maybe a fighting game....Halo, Starcraft, Diablo, R2R, WOW, there are an infinite number of excellent games amongst so many genres, that to pinpoint a single outstanding one is an exercise in futility. That was what I was trying to say. But everybody's gotta flame the flamer...

Gauntlet, for the atari - it's the first game i ever played, and can still play it now, and get as worked up!
