Okay, Global Warming Deniers: Where did the Ice Go?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/6995999.stm

The Northwest Passage is now open. Where there used to be ice, there is no ice.

If there is no global warming, outside of Al Gore's head, where did the ice go?

Here's the Faux News link for those of you who only believe it if it's been well filtered:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,261240,00.html

So did the ice get scared, or is it melting? By being warmed, maybe?

Update:

bfm- nice chart. Where did the ice go? It's been there for thousands of years.

Update 2:

Ritch-

This might take a second to digest, so read it as many times as you need to:

There are lots of people on land that is very close to sea level.

When arctic ice melts- it goes into the sea. The sea level then rises (if the ice was on land, which much of this ice is).

That sea level land gets reclaimed by the sea.

Those people who live there need somwhere to go.

What country do people go to usually when they flee their homes?

Think hard, you'll get there.

Further, it mystifies many that as ice sheets retreat, cold pressure waves that produce enhanced seasonality are a result. Not to mention the increases in evaporation which leads to such things as, gasp, increased snow in some areas...

The first sign of global warming will be a massive cold span. if the ice caps melt significantly (as many "environmentalists" would lead you to believe is happening), all that cold water is going to get into the currents and bring down the temperature.

We are being led to believe that there is global warming, but are only given enough information as to that. I have looked for detailed scientific journal entries on this subject and have been unable to find anything more than vague descriptions.

find me one article that accurately describes the causes of global warming. I'm looking for some actual scientific research, not news articles or something from a politically motivated site. Find me a scientific journal entry detailing what is causing global warming, and I will consider believing it.

Also, try some critical thinking while coming up with your arguments. You sound like a pre-teen in a name calling contest.

From an article in TIME MAGAZINE, June 24, 1974

"However widely the weather varies from place to place and time to time, when meteorologists take an average of temperatures around the globe they find that the atmosphere has been growing gradually cooler for the past three decades. The trend shows no indication of reversing.

Climatological Cassandras are becoming increasingly apprehensive, for the weather aberrations they are studying may be the harbinger of another ice age.

Telltale signs are everywhere —from the unexpected persistence and thickness of pack ice in the waters around Iceland to the southward migration of a warmth-loving creature like the armadillo from the Midwest.Since the 1940s the mean global temperature has dropped about 2.7° F. "

  • Dude! That's great! Can you imagine what this will do to shipping trade! Seriously, this is great.

I'm not a global warming denier, I'm a global warming rooter! Go global warming! Open more of the Earth's waterways. Warm the Earth and let's get more crops planted in areas that haven't been able to grow them in decades...even centuries! Let's get a little rain forest up here in United States! Do you know how many species live in the rain forests? Do you know how many more species will live in a warm sea than a cold one?

Bottom line, who cares where the ice goes? How has ice benefited man...except in my bourbon or scotch?

    Go Global Warming Go!

Source(s): LOL, nice insult dude, but you might want to practice the little thinking exercise yourself. This 'melting' a) isn't going to happen over night. It'll take decades to centuries to affect any significant population on the globe. b) Even 'worst case' estimates put the rise in sea levels to about 24 inches (which isn't enough to 'sink' New York) with the average more in the neighborhood of about 6 to 8 inches (which isn't enough to sink Holland). So again, so what? I look forward to your educating me on the catastrophe of warmer temperatures. Frankly, I see it as a lot of good and very little bad. Now, while I don't see rising temperatures as anything but good, the underlying pollution is something that we need to address and for that, I suggest we go to the real polluters like China, India and Russia among others. What they're doing is criminal. But why is it that the global warming crowd picks on the U.S. which has done so much to minimize pollution and literally NOTHING to affect these growing industrialized cess pools?

That was the news last fall at the end of summer.

After an extemely cold winter, the ice is back to what it should be.

Personally, I don't think we have enough historical data to know if this is a normal cycle, or real Global Warming.

The artic has about 7% of the world's ice. 80% of the world's ice is in antarctica. Yes the ice in the arctic is melting and it usually does in the spring.

Ted Kennedy Martinis at lunch. Al Gore now is selling Kennedy Offset Credits. Looks to be a gold mine in that for every Martini that Kennedy has you get a token to be used at Chucky Cheeses

This is what confuses the nay sayers. In order to get the whole picture one must understand it isn't just warming. But a climate change. I still can't figure out why there is so much resistance to taking care of this planet.

It wouldn't be the first time and won't be the last either. Iowa just had one of the latest freezes on record. Call me in 20 years and let's see where we stand.

  • Vikings used to farm on Greenland... until the Vikings caused the globe to get cold.

There didn't used to be nearly as many polar bears back in the time of the Vikings.

The globe IS COLD. Not warm.
