It should be closed, its not really far that Oregon can't fish the columbia and Washington can. It would be best for the species. But I don't think they will, the state of Washigton makes way to much money from the salmon fishery.

unless people start being more conservation minded, practicing catch photograph and release (CPR) then it will come to Washington also, spent last summer fishing Neah Bay and the Puget Sound off Vashon Island, it is already pretty regulated there, the fishing reg book is pretty thick and there are a lot of rules and regulations to check constantly, as the Puget Sound is split into 12 or 13 area's, but hopefully it will stay a sustainable fishery,,,

I don't feel it is fair that I have to use one barbless hook in the salt or on the rivers while the Indians are allowed to use gill nets just to strip the eggs out of salmon and then throw the carcass on the bank.

It must become a fair fishery

    to become sustainable

No, the fish that return to the WA rivers have had relatively healthy years and returns, esspecially compared to CA/OR. As of right now, there aren't too many people interested in fighting for salmon closures up there. CA and OR rivers struggle because of the political, economic, and environmental policies that govern resources essential to salmon populations. Many of those factors are not applicable to WA salmon.

CA and Oregon share the Klammath River, a valued salmon river, and therefore share a fishery.

I live in Oregon, but I don't think that the closures will affect the state of Washington much. I know the Columbia river is open, and I caught a salmon there last week.
