I've been having this problem with my new DVD recorder I've got it connected to my freeview box and the picture is fine when the player is off I checked the scart cables and they are brand new.

check the cables - if the scart is a bit loose it can cause issues. A pink tinge can also be casued by magnetic interference. Try running your dvd player (but not connected to the tv) and see if that causes a problem to screen on a standard channel.

Check your connections. You may have a faulty lead.
