I am teaching sex ed to middle schoolers. What should I address in the boys to men talk?

I would like topics that cover physical, mental, and social changes experienced during adolescence. (The class is single gender.)

Update:

I am a science teacher. Sex ed. is part of biology. You can teach it whether you are male or female.

Update 2:

some_ran- interesting note

How can a teen/young man avoid being in one of those situations?

    1. As boys age they become more musky and need to apply deodorant especially after they play sports.

    2. Birth Control is not solely the girls responsibility. You can do the demo of the condom on the banana if you want.

    3. Their body parts will increase in size, they will get acne, their voices will change, they will grow hair in unfamiliar places.

    4. You can talk about the wet dream as some of them may experience it and really get freaked out.

    Best of luck

I can't believe there is not some curriculum already in place. This can't be the first time this is being taught. What did they do in the past? Our school has presenters from the local board of health come in and do the presentations. It's fine that you feel comfortable doing it, in fact that's great and it says a lot about your relationship with your students. However, your students may not feel as comfortable, and may feel even less so afterwards. I would call your local board of health, or find out how this has been handled in the past.

    I would say:

Changes they will comw across...(shaving, voice changing, sexuality - feelings)

Social: Men as for women are expected to be a certain way to get accepted in society..Men do not have to be mean, strong, bullies or they don't have to love sports!

Mental: Living trough ups and downs of emotions and understanding the way to cope... It,s ok to be mad...It's never ok to hit...

(i am also a teacher...hope it gave you some ideas)

    good luck!! :)

Nothing. A female teacher should not be teaching sex education to middle school boys. I cannot imagine any school permitting that! I am not a prude by any means, and fully support the need for sex education. But at that age, it should be taught by men to boys, and women to girls. Not being sexist, being sensible and taking into consideration the emotional well being and fragility of young people with suddenly erupting sex drives.

Only one message I think you should convey:

Make a girl do anything she doesn't want to and society will come down on him with all our fury.

'Tis a good lesson for life.
