anyways, i8 was wondering, instead of wastin 300 more, why not get a 500 or 1000 tb external hdd for my ps3.????
Can i plug in a regular external hardrive?
im pretty sure the usb ports on the ps3 are 2.0 so can i plug in a 4 way hub also???

250 gigs is the limit, an yea on the side there's a place to remove the old hard-drive (use a flash drive to back up system files) anyway you can replace it as much as you wish (without voiding the warranty) check out the source list for a video clip that shows you how to do it, and check the features lists to see the difference in them but as far as hard drives go it don't matter the size because you can upgrade and as far as usb features why not? they are 2.0 and pick up stuff fairly well but that's your choice.

No there won't be any update for PS2 compatibility on the 40GB models. That's what you pay the additional $300 for besides the harddrive space and some additional connections.
You can plug in an external HDD, but only to play media files like movies or music from this.
You can't actively use the external HDD for game installations or similar things.
Yes, the USB ports are 2.0 and you can use a USB hub without problems.
However keep in mind, that a USB Port can sustain only 500mA. If you intend to connect a HUB and several USB devices that draw more than 500mA of current, then you will need a USB hub with a power supply or else the devices won't work or damage your PS3's USB ports, if the devices are cheap and don't implement USB protocols correctly.

on contrary the rumor i've heard is they might drop ps2 compatibility from the newer 60 and 80gig models. it depends on how sony decides to best fight microsoft who has lowered there 360 prices constantly due to market changes with the hd-dvd. sony is now trying to decide what would be better to drop... the blu-ray to make them as weak as the 360 in that area... or the backwards compatibility?
on the 4-way hub... i have rock band on the ps3 and it recommends using a hub to get all the instruments connected, so i would say yes no problem. idk about the external hard drive stuff tho.
