Would the pope be safer if he walked instead of rode in the pope mobile? Is this a lack of faith?

The gentleman has a lot of people who wish to see him. If he walked, only those along the front of the crowd could get more than a glimpse. So to oblige these folk, he rides in an elevated carriage.
Another good reason is that it protects him from casual attack by persons of bad intentions. Saves a lot of trouble all round.
Car makers will fall over each other to supply the vehicle. It's great publicity to supply the Fordillac for the visit.
I'm sure there are good theological reasons why faith is not considered sufficient. Putting temptation in the way of those already badly inclined muight be a consideration.

Just because Mercedes provides the Pope transportation and wants to keep him safe is not a lack of faith, one has been shot all ready and security is not going to let that happen again. There are too many nuts running around that want to become famous or more infamous by doing stupid things.

No the pope would never walk because he fears death just like most flesh and bone human beings. Anybody can talk brave when they are surrounded by security but being alone without it is different.

I love how Pope John Paul II gave thanks to Our Lady of Fatima for saving his life -- if it was her saintly handed that was guiding the bullet, why couldn't she have just made it miss him completely?
