Which novel shall I start first?

I picked up two novels from the book swap at work today: Stephen R. Donaldson's, "The Runes of Earth" and Ken Follett's, "The Pillars of the Earth". I read Donaldson's 1st. Chronicles of Thomas Covenant about 20yrs. ago, so I'm excited to see the beginning of the new epic. Follet was highly recommended by a client who reads 200 books per year and stated that this was a phenomenal read.

(((HELLLLP))) !!!

Update:

LOL...Ellejai. Remember Sr. Mary Augustine? Would she have recommended Follet?

A Cathedral to be built with 12th Century Gothic Architecture as opposed to it's predecessory Romanesque standard of the day, an "epic masterpiece" that spans for a multitude of generations, characters that you will get excited about, depicted in detail, chapter upon chapter devoted to each, only to have them annihilated in some way, probably only to reincarnate somewhere in "World Without End", Amen...

What are you, masochistic or somethin? Finally got time away from your busy schedule, and ya wanna commit literary suicide?

"Reading Is Fundamental" and, in your case, dearheart, the operative underlying word encrypted here is "fun"...please read Donaldson's "Runes of Earth" go on, live a little, sheesh! Don'tcha wanna capture that vicarious déjà vu experience from 20 yrs ago? (*remember, I know what that face looks like...)♥

Source(s): This is not the Ken Follet you know, baby, my brain cells are still in agony, I refuse to read another book soley based on the ravings of Oprah (not that she is my reading mentor, or my personal literary giant, please, you know better!) This read was more like an assignment, I declare, "No More Parochial School Beatings" for me, ever, in any form!!!! I'll bet that the "200 book a year" dude hasn't read 200 books like this one, trust me, if he has, then that's why he's your client...

Go for Pillars of the Earth. I haven't read it yet, but I hear tell it's a great story. I heard the sequel (World Without End) is good, too.

i think you should read "the Runes of Earth" because this author is someone who you've already read one of his books and you loved it. So you might like this book very much. Not so much the other because even though this person reads 200 books per year. doesn't make their taste the same as yours. Have fun Reading!
