Do Guppies really need to have alittle salt put in the tank?

    No they dont.

    Guppies can handle some salt in the water, and a small amount may even be benifical to them.

    But I never add salt to my tank, and I have literally hundreds of guppies.

    No they don't NEED salt but it isn't necessarily bad for them, withing moderation.

    In their native habitat they have minerals in their water that makes it "hard water", some of these minerals are found in salt so by putting salt in the tank it helps stimulate a more natural enviroment for the fish.

    If you do use salt either use rock salt or aquarium salt. Table salt and pickling salt (and probably others, I'm not to well versed in types of salts :P) have iodine in them and will harm your fish.

    Salt has a tonic effect. Most fish like a little bit of salt in the water.

    i don't and they are just fine but if you get ich then you should keep the salt in the tank.

    **if you don't know what ich is it is Bactria and it attaches itself to there fins and the salt make it all better**

    P.S it is white and looks like spots
