New Madrid Prediction?????????????????

I'm no religious zealot but many years ago I heard all the dooms day predictions and one was the New Madrid Quake in 2008, which happened last night. I looked it up on Google and sure enough it is there. Do you pay attention to such things, What do you think about this one?

I'm pretty sure the quake you are talking about is going to be a lot bigger then the one last night. It will be catastrophic...to the point where Chicago will fall. Very few of Chicago's buildings were built to earthquake code. But it is scary. In Revelations it talks about how there will be flooding where there has never been (happened last month), earthquakes, storms, fire, etc. Does anyone else see a pattern like I do? Children will disrespect authority...yadda yadda....I think that all is coming to pass. I, also am no religious guru...but I have read the Bible and I do believe what it says. My husband thinks I'm paranoid....but I think it's very possible.

Well for one thing they are saying that this was produced by the Wabash fault, not New Madrid. Plus, while this one was bigger than usual, there are small earthquakes quite frequently in the region (nothing like California or Alaska, but every few weeks the seismometer shakes) I just read that there was a 5.0 in 2002 as well. It's not THAT unusual an event. The1811-1812 New Madrid quakes were 8.0+ and followed by months and months of severe aftershocks. The Mississippi flowed backwards for a brief period. Large cracks opened up in the earth and geysers of sand were blown into the sky. Even if you believe in that stuff.....I don't think this quake (which has been little more than an irritation here....45 miles from the epicenter) is worth being deemed a major New Madrid event.

The quake in Souther Illinoise last night was not the New Madrid fault it was the Wabash fault. The New Madrid fault is in MO. I think a doomsday quake would be much more catastrophic than the one last night. Only minor dmg reported. I don't take too much to heart on doomsday predictions. I've alwasy been told it will be a day no one expects and a predicition puts a lot of expectations out there.

There is all the world of difference between the nonsensical doomsday predictions and awareness of the geology of the earths crust, the movement of tectonic plates , the tensions along fault lines and volcanic activity. Damaging earthquakes cannot be predicted with any accuracy at all beyond sometimes being able to identify areas in which they are likely to occur. Volcanic activity is carefully monitored so there is more advance warning but even then the time between warning signs and eruption can be very short, depending on the type of volcano.
