Hair Dye question - blue with red tips?
My husband wants to dye his hair blue with red tips. I have the bleach and dye; how do I do this without the colors running together, or the tips turning out purple?

This might work. Bleach ALL of his hair. After the treament is finished BEFORE you dye his hair blue put vasaline on the tips of his hair that you want to be red. This will prevent the dye from penetrating the hair. Once he's done with the Blue treatment he needs to wash his hair with HOT water to get out the vasaline and to expose the bleached tips. Get a highlight cap and pull the tips through the cap that you want red. Apply the treatment as normal. --- Good Luck

Safest bet is just to dye his hair blue and do the tips the next day or something. When I dyed my hair bright red I tried to do black tips at the same time = brown/mahogany coloured tips T_T
Nice choice of colours btw ;)
If you wash the hair again when it's blue so any excess dye is definately gone, and then dye the tips there's a lot less chance of it running and mixing. When you do the blue dye, I'd recommend putting a lubricant like vaseline or gel on the tips so it's doesn't spread to them.

i died my hair purple green and red, i started by dyeing the darkest colour first waiting for a while, then dyed the next colour and finally the lightest. At first i thought it would run into each other, but with careful application and rinsing of the dye it was fine

If you have dark brown hair, bleaching it will turn it orange, so when the red and blue wash out, your hair will still be orange, because the bleach takes a REALLY long time to wash out. Go to a stylist just to talk about how else you can keep the red and blue from fading without using bleach.

Even though this is not a good idea. You should dye his hair blue first, rinse out and then let his hair dry. Carefully add the red tips once his hair is completely dry. Shampoo, Condition and Rise again.

I think it would be a bit over the top. And it would probably turn purple no matter what.
