2001 Chevy Cavalier Speedo Change?

I currently have a 2001 Chevy Cavalier with 5SPD Manual Tranny.... For some reason Chevy felt that this car did not need a Tach...instead they installed an Idiot shift light (which I ignore)...

My Question simply put is this....Can you simply swap the No Tach instrument cluster with the version with a Tach (of course i would need to update the mileage etc...i know this...) I am talking about splicing wires and such....i prefer not to if i dont have to.

Update:

Tim B - Thanks for the answer....If i had an automatic transmission, i wouldnt even care if it had a tach. However, with a manual i prefer to have a tach over the Idiot light (which as i mentioned before I ignore and listen to the engine). Not to mention it is a lot easier to teach someone who has no experience driving manual when you have a tach (especially since most vehicles with a manual transmission have a tach instead of Idiot light)

Just guessing the car probably has an existing wire to hook up the tachometer.

Especially if there were other versions of the car with tachometers?

Being totally honest with you.. I would not change it.. why go through the hassle just to have a tachometer?

The mileage if computer fed.. should not change. Just from changing to a newer cluster. [The information (accumulated mileage) is not stored in the cluster panel but stored in the cars computer.]

If it is the old style analogue gauge.. then changing to a newer gauge could get you in court.. if you sold the car before it was 10 years old or older.. for tampering with the shown mileage.

    Does this help any?
