IUCD Removal surgical procedure?

Anyone knows how IUCD got removed surgically? Recently my wife's doctor said her IUCD went out of place with string missing. May needs to be removed surgically but she got so hysterical over the word "surgical"..Anyone knows how it's done?

The most likely scenario is that the doctor would put a small camera (optic fibre cable/scope) up through the vagina into the uterus, and retrieve the IUD by using the small tweezers on the end of the scope. It is called a hysteroscopy. This would cause minimal discomfort afterwards.

This procedure would be done under anaesthetic, and require only a day stay in hospital.
