Groid, I wouldn't have paid him until he had put it back as I wanted. He was hired to do a specific job, not bugger around with your garden.
That's tantamount to theft.... he's done the work so now you HAVE to pay. No chance.

I'm afraid not !!! I did however, get someone to mow my lawn for me last year and came home to find he had created a flower-bed over about 1/3 of my lawn. It looked lovely, but I wasnt too impressed as I wanted that particular area to be low maintenance and had planted shrubs there. He dug up the lawn and spent about £100 on compost and bark chippings - no plants even !!! I was so angry when he gave me the bill - so now I am left to weed and tend to this area (it's not just garden plants that benefit from compost - weeds do too !!!). I will stick to cutting my own grass this year - even though I know he was only trying to make a nice garden.
