Jesus's Earthly Father Arrested.?

If the story of Jesus's birth were held today, would Joseph be arrested and tried as a Sex Offender? With Mary being 13 and Pregnant and Joseph in his '20s, law enforcement would never believe Joseph's explanation.

I don't know if a DNA test would show Christ carrying Joseph's DNA.

Even though Joseph "never knew" Mary prior to her conception I am assuming he intended to consummate the marriage at some point and that he wasn't counting the days until her 18th birthday.

If that is so, then he would certainly be a Sex Offender, would be tried and found guilty, and after he served his sentence, he would have to register with the national Sex Offender Database and be posted on the law enforcement SO websites.

Joseph would be shunned by society and mercilessly treated for the rest of his Earthly days.

So is having sex with an underage girl evil, if you are in your twenties, or does evil depend of the culture of the day?

Update:

Regarding Mary's age:

Isa. 7:14: "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel."

In the original Hebrew the actual word is "almah", not virgin: meaning virgin, young woman of marriageable age, maid or newly married.

In the KJV, every instance of the word almah relates to a girl at the beginning of marriable age, 13-15: where the age can be known.

It would be unlikely that Mary was any other age.

Update 2:

There is no biblical mention of Mary being a virgin at the time of her death. It is an Orthodox theory, first brought about hundreds of years after the passing of Mary.

Joseph's age is beyond speculation. The best guess is around 43, which is old for the day. He may well have died before consummation.

However, the speculative ages I gave were the most likely for the day. And were each of those marriages populated by evil men or is evil dependant on culture?

Mary remained a virgin after they were wed...

Jesus' half brothers were Joseph's children... not Mary's.

Joseph was around eighty years old when they were bethrothed... His first wife had died many years earlier.

    1. You don't know Mary's age

    2. You would have all the policemen arresting Joseph sharing Joseph's cell as everyone married much younger.

    3. The same material you source has Joseph attempting to divorce her for being unfaithful. What do you say about that?

This type of forcing your culture and beliefs on other cultures living long before your granddaddy was a twinkle in your great granddaddy's eye is the ultimate display of arrogance and intolerance.

Of course, Atheists in VT would argue that having sex with 3 year olds was alright as they believe their is no child to young to have sex with.

Also note there are girls in the US having baby's at 8 and 9. What are you to put the fathers injail....since this is your belief?

  • The average lifespan in that time was maybe 35 years (I couldn't manage to google up any source I'm willing to trust, but that's the best of what I found).

Average, so some lived a lot longer and some lived a lot less. Given the trauma of childbirth, there would have been quite a few women in that lot less category.

If she was menstruating, she was considered old enough.

This one doesn't work, try again. :-)

The bible never said hold old Mary was. Also if you look back in Americans history you will see that girls married very young a long time ago.

As I see it you either have to much time on your hands or you are just trying to stir folks up with your ridiculous questions

First I think before you even ask this question perhaps getting all the facts in order is something you need to be doing to make your case solid... Giving evidence through your own opinion does not make a case...

  • It is an ode to the populace not wishing to envisage she who gave birth to The Christ being man handled. This problem paled when Jesus was barbarically murdered before the same rabble who would voice such a view ..

Yes,,today he would,,,,and I sure there would be a father found

3000year old stories of how to treat your slaves and sell your daughters do not apply to todays society

  • But wouldn't a pelvic exam prove Mary never had sex? ;-)
