I need a copy of prior W-2's from former employers. What's the easiest and most effective way to do this?

Get down on your hands and knees and get ready to beg and get kicked a lot.

Most employers don't keep ready copies; they believe having provided you with the forms it's your problem; and some just plain won't.

Phone them and say "May I have a copy of my old W-2, please?"

Employers are required to keep copies of W-2's for seven years, and to give you a copy on request - although they are allowed to charge you a "reasonable" fee for doing so.

unfortunately, wizjp is right. Call the company's hr department, or payroll clerk if they are a small company, and ask. Some companies are good about it and others may require you to jump through hoops and maybe even pay a fee. Good luck.
