Without a doubt British comedy. No american comedy can beat shows like The Mighty Boosh, Peep Show and Balls of Steel. And even american spin offs of British comedies can't measure up. The Office is good but the British verson is much better and funnier.

There's so much American comedy, that it's really hard to lump it all together. Shows like "30 Rock", "The Simpsons", "Family Guy", and other shows with a sardonic tone don't exactly appeal to the same audience as "Friends", "Will & Grace", and a lot of sitcoms like that.

With that being said, I think the British Office is waaaaay funnier than the American one, and I've always been a big fan of the British comedy from the '80's & '90''s, like "The Young Ones" and just about anything French & Saunders, or Ade Edmondson or Rik Mayall were attached to.

Overall, English comedy is much better. But American comedies top out higher than any English comedy. The best America has wallops the best England has. But if you average it out, England wallops America, by far. What I think waters down American comedy is the rediculous amount of episodes, whereas a season in england is MAYBE 8 episodes. A lot more quality in Brit-Coms. Much, much better writing. American writing is not even 1-10th as clever. English writing gives you time to think whereas American writing just tries to machine-gun sex-joke after sex-joke followed by men-are-stupid-and-useless-joke after men-are-stupid-and-useless-joke.

Britcoms! Red Dwarf, Coupling, Chef, and Black Books are some of my favorites. I enjoy a few American comedies, but mostly animated ones - Simpsons, Futurama, and Family Guy.

Too bad some of the British series are so short - but I guess they go for quality over quantity.

i really like both, there are a lot of american comedies that are just awesomely funny, like Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Simpsons of course. but i really like brit comedies like Peep Show and The Mighty Boosh cause they're just so weird, so i think i'll go with British comedy!

I like them both. The difference is, British comedy actually requires some thought or intellect. It's also much less offensive.

I am from the US, but I watch both. I have to say I like American comedy best.

    BRIT

Oh please, friends, or The Office? Case closed

American comedy is all that obvious "I'm on TV" stuff... even Americans loved the Office... we had to copy the whole thing so we know who looks up to who...

And as for Only Fools and horses... comedy gold
