Talk about the events that led to the Great Depression. For example, how did the victors of WWI decide to help Germany financially? Talk about the Marshall Plan, and why it didn't work. Then, I would also include social things like the Grapes of Wrath, prohibiton, Jazz, and what effect the depression had on all of this.
I do know that in Australia, people were forced to become traveling "swagmen" which is pretty much a person who puts all of there belongings into a sack, wraps it around a stick and away they go. I also believe that the song "Waltzing Matilda" which is one of the most famous folk songs in Australia was created around the time of the Depression.
Look it up.
Hope this helps.

Known as the "Great Depression" in the USA, during the late 20s and early 30s, there was a worldwide depression. Germany was especially hit (their currency inflation SHOT throught the ROOF!) You can include basic facts, like the rate of unemployment, etc.
Something interesting would also be a personal story - there are a LOT of people who talk about what it was like living in the depression, like the shame they felt having to be on financial support, the stress men felt being unable to provide for their families, the stress children felt having their childhood limited, etc. An interesting thing my teacher once told me is that people who survived the depression always have the fear of "What if it happens again?" The conditions were SO BAD that they constantly live in fear of another depression. They have interesting antics - this one woman, a petite lady, used to get her pants altered (cut) to fit her - but she would always keep the portion removed. That sounds crazy now, but she knows what it was to live in a time when there was not enough money to buy food, much less new clothing, shoes, etc.
