The answers on this site never cease to amaze me. The two have nothing to do with each other. Anyone can get a business license from your local city hall to open and operate in the city of your choice. A occupational license comes from certified training in a specific occupation such as a cosmetology license, a certified mechanics license, a dental hygienist license and so on.

I believe that an occupational license allows you to practice that occupation--Example: cosmetologist--you can't do that job unless you have a license that shows you are qualified (it's to keep people from claiming they know how to do something that they are not trained in)

A Business license would be for tax purposes. You could have a cosmetology license, but would not be able to open a business unless you had registered for tax purposes, I think.
