As rare as 'outside-oiler' panheads, this is almost an obscenity. I would trade a set of shovel heads & barrels, which are stronger & breathe better, to anyone who has a good outside oiler Pan top-end!
A couple of hot-rodders I know built a Shov-ster (Shovel heads & barrels grafted to a Sportster) back in the '80's that is still running today, as far as I know.
The wildest graft job I ever saw was in Big Bike mag in 1972, where some maniac grafted a Shovel top to a WR-45 crankcase. It was 84", turned 90hp. and only weighed 203lb. wet. The builder was a gorilla. If the cover photo was the one I remember, the builder was standing in front of the photog, HOLDING THE BIKE IN HIS ARMS!
I stand corrected. . . . this graft job was called the ".45 Magnum"
I talked to a brother tonight, and he reminded me this graft job used bored out SPORTSTER cylinders & heads, not shovels, but it was still one hairy 'MUTHA'!

havent seen anything like that for quite a while. used to see one now & then at the strip . the last one I can remember seeing was a shovester on the trailer dyno at sturgis in 93 or 94.
a couple of farm boys had built it with axtel cylinders (I think) & shovel heads on sporty cases. it was the only bike to break 100 hp in the hour or so I stood around there.
several companys make big valve custom heads now so people just buy those I guess.
good luck on finding your old bike. if I run across one at a show I'll get the info for ya.

Motoman nice try, but that is just a Sportster w/Pan jugs and heads. The Panster (Ted, the builder called it a 74ster) I seen around 70 or 71 was a Pan mill heli-arced to a Sporty trans. (used pan, sporty and K model parts) This bike was built by Ted who was at the time the head mechanic at C M & H Harley in Grand Junction,CO Somewhere I have a pic but 35mm not ditgital.
