I have just fitted a brand new standard exhaust system but its making a high pitched shrill noise when accelerating. the guy at kwik-fit says itll go away when the exhaust 'builds up carbon' but im not convinced. any advice?

It shouldn`t make any strange noises as far as i know.

Did your car have twin exit tail pipes before the exhaust

change.I know that the 200 vi was the prototype for the Zr

range and was quite a powerful little beast at the time.

Maybe kwik fit thought it was just a rover 200 and fitted the

standard exhaust to it not knowing it was the 200vi model.

The 200vi puts out about 146bhp i think.

give it a couple of weeks and if it doesnt go away take it back i had the same with one and did it for 1000 miles then i took it back and they said there was a fault with it, but a little noise for a short while is apparantly normal

i had the same thing on a citroen with a replacement, i went back, they said it would quiet down, it never did, it turned out to be a cheap aftermarket back box with near no baffles, they never did change it.
